Bhickman
Moderators - if this is in the wrong thread I apologize and please move it to the appropriate one. November 15, 2009 would have been Jay Bennett's 46th birthday. On that evening, friends and comrades will gather at The Hideout in Chicago to celebrate the life and music of their extraordinarily talented friend. Scheduled to appear:Edward BurchThe Viper & His Famous OrchestraBrad Elvis & Chloe Orwell (of The Handcuffs)members of Dolly VardenQuartet ParapluieSteve FrisbieDorian TajJohn PeacockKenneth Rainey (of Tangleweed)Brian Krumm & Brian Leach (of The Great Crusades)Chris DeMayand more $8 cover. Proceeds to benefit organizations helping with musician healthcare issues. For advance tickets, go to: http://www.hideoutchicago.com/calendar.html I'm hoping the "and more" is guys that were in Wilco. I'd also like to see fellows from the Jayhawks and Soul Asylum there as well if at all possible.
Guest Speed Racer
Thanks for posting this. For those who can't make it, can you post a list of the organizations that the benefit is...benefitting? Or a way to donate to the benefit?
Bhickman
I'll definitely post once I know - bummed that the guys from Wilco won't be able to be there - still on tour at that time.

Bhickman
alright everyone, be there or be square - come on out and help some musicians. it's only $8. Here's my interview feature with Edward Burch about the event: http://rocknrollghost.com/2009/11/15/edward-burch-talks-about-the-jay-bennett-birthday-celebration-tonight-in-chicago
HungryHippo
I'd love to be there but getting time off of work now is next to impossible. you all have tons of fun. I'm sure Jay will be there rocking out with you guys in spirit.
Edie
I can't get there either. Jake is *almost* the age where I can leave him alone at night for a few hours... a year or so from now I should be able to make things like this on nights that my husband is working. LouieB
Kinda weird that Wilco's in Europe again during this..... I hope it's a great evening for everyone.Wilco didn't organize this, Ed Burch, Jay's long time collaborator did. It was a very fun evening for the the couple or so hours I was there. Lots of different folks got up to sing and many interesting stories were told. Hopefully someone will give a complete report. It was certainly under attended in my opinion. But that didn't matter. W(TF)
Wilco didn't organize this, Ed Burch, Jay's long time collaborator did. I realize that, just find it ironic there seems to still be a transoceanic distance between Jay and the current band. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. But, had some of the current members been able to attend, that might've been even weirder.
Bhickman
John for sure wanted to be there, but these shows are booked way in advance and the tribute was put together after Labor Day. It would have been impossible for any of them to come.
