A very proud moment

Recommended Posts

This is something that my wife posted on my Facebook page that makes me real proud:

"Here is a Veteran's Day story for you that I told my friend Wendy....Two days ago I was at Corner Bakery with my 10 year old son having a meal, and there was a serviceman there in full uniform. My 10 year old went over to his table and said "I just want to thank you, sir, for serving our country and everything that you have done" and it brought tears to my eyes. The man was really touched. Then my 10 year old said to me, "Dad always does that, so I wanted to do it too." I thought that was a nice Veteran's day story."

Great kid.

Nice to know that some things sink in.

How did no one reply to this? In these days of kids just being snot nosed little bastardos and lazy buggers, this is a lovely story. Good on that kid and good on his dad for being a respectful guy. Service people deserve our thanks all the time no matter what you think about the conflicts they have to fight.

I would hope my kids will do the same when they are old enough to know what Veterans Day is.. Good kid indeed.

Yesterday I thanked my Grandfather who served in the Korean war, as well as a good friend of mine who is a Marine that served in Iraq in 03.

Over the summer I was at a layover in Baltimore and a janitor walked up to a service man and said "thank you for your service." Without blinking the service man replied "thank you for yours too." I thought that was nice, and it made my delayed flight worth it.

I had to reply something the opposite of what's been said to show that there are still some people out there that are thick or just plain oblivious. This happened to me on Tuesday. I posted it on my Facebook page as is.

while waiting in line yesterday to check out for my groceries the following conversation occurred between the female teenage cashier asking the male teenage bagger: "So like why are we celebrating people who take care of dogs tomorrow?" Bagger: "I don't know that's a good question". :*(
