MarkyMark77
I'd like to see john and pat get in on the vocals for the next record I'd like to see a double epic record, like the the Beatles "White Album", a kitchen sink type of record. It's a format which would allow for different lead vocal turns and songwriting as well. Jeff's got the people in Wilco now to do this sort of thing. I'd love to see the others have more songwriting input just to see what would happen. Solid songs with some other more quirky tunes, some straight ahead arrangements mixed in with some really weird crap. "Being There" is basically like two regular Wilco records. This concept would so not be that (although I love that record). It might mean, however, enduring another "Less Than You Think" for those of you (us?) who don't care for that sort of thing. Of course, I'll probably dig whatever they'll do, and I'm not telling them what to do, just daydreaming a bit.
watch me fall
If Wilco wants to put out a "country" album and get nominated for the CMAs, all they have to do is put on country hats. I know Jeff wears one now and then, but he needs to get all the other guys on board. They've already got the Nudie suits, but if they put on hats, they'll be a real gol-darned country band. It's the stupidest thing in the world, but it really seems like that's all there is to country music these days. Hey, Hootie? Want to be a country star? Here's your hat. Hey John Bon Jovi from goddamn New Jersey! Wanna be a country star? Here's your hat! And next thing you know, Hootie and Bon Jovi are on the country stations and winning CMAs. All because of the hats. Meanwhile, Jason Isbell's out there writing great songs that never get near the radio. That really chaps my hide... Actually Darius/Hootie has been a country fan for a long time. He used to play covers of Nanci Griffith songs back in the day and has even recorded with her. Don't think it has anything to do with the hat.

Of course, I'll probably dig whatever they'll do, and I'm not telling them what to do, just daydreaming a bit. An interesting suggestion; I feel that W(TA) is almost a kitchen-sink record, minus the lead vocal turns. From Pitchfork: The phrase, "It's like their White Album"-- applied to records like Prince's Sign o' the Times, Hüsker Dü's Zen Arcade, the Clash's Sandinista!, and Pavement's Wowee Zowee, among many others-- has long been accepted critical shorthand. To use the expression is to conjure a familiar cluster of associations: The work in question is large and sprawling, overflowing with ideas but also with indulgences, and filled with a hugely variable array of material, some of which might sound great one day and silly the next. A band's White Album is also most likely assembled under a time of great stress, often resulting in an artistic peak but one that nonetheless scatters clues to its creator's eventual demise. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's hoping that this isn't the case with Wilco - IF they were to go in that direction. If they were to break up, we'd all have to find somewhere else to hang out online...
Rusty Shackleford
Actually Darius/Hootie has been a country fan for a long time. He used to play covers of Nanci Griffith songs back in the day and has even recorded with her. This may be true, but his album never would've shown up on the Nashville charts without a hat.
