bböp
I tried to post this last night after the show, but I guess it didn't go through. I'm sure about three people were waiting in anticipation. Anyway, what I wrote basically was that the Florence crowd was a little tamer than I thought it would be. That might have had to do with the very posh, beautiful theater setting. Nobody got up until Jeff asked them to toward the end of Spiders. I didn't even see that many heads bobbing on the main floor. I base my some of my expectations on footage I've seen of Italian crowds from Springsteen shows in stadiums, and obviously I didn't expect that here, but it was still weird to see such a reserved crowd for most of the show. When everybody got up toward the end, it did get to be a little more rocking. But it definitely took a while. All of which made for a great-sounding show, of course. I don't think I've ever heard John sing quite as clearly on At My Window... as I did last night. So kudos to Stan and the venue for making it sound really good. Seemed like there were quite a few Americans, judging by the conversations I heard outside before the show. It didn't help much with the Jesus, etc. singalong, though, and Jeff sort of aborted it after first verse. He didn't banter too much with the crowd, except to say 'grazie' a couple of times and to ask sort of jokingly if Michaelangelo had built this place (apparently it has quite the history). Anyway, here was the setlist as played (they had Can't Stand It as the first song of the second encore on the printed list but it didn't get played): --"The Beautiful Blue Danube" intro music--Sunken TreasureCompany In My BackBull Black NovaYou Are My FaceIATTBYH>One WingA Shot in the ArmMuzzle of BeesAt Least That's What You SaidAt My Window Sad and LonelyI'll FightImpossible GermanyCountry DisappearedHandshake DrugsBox Full of LettersJesus, etc. (crowd singalong aborted)TheologiansI'm The Man Who Loves You--------------------------Via Chicago>Spiders (Kidsmoke)----------------------------happy birthday sung to monitor tech Jared--Heavy Metal DrummerHate It HereWalkenMonday>Outtasite (Outta Mind)
gnegno
I was there, in my opinion gig of the year! Gnegno from Roma
H.Stone
At My Window.... I'm sure that was beautiful--and particularly if the harmonies were especially clear. The last time I heard that (from the full band) was in 1998 at Summerfest.
roby
A spectacular show in a very very nice theatre.Italian audience was part of the show, the band itself is in top form. Heart stoppers for me: Country Disappeared, At My Window Sad And Lonely, A Box Full Of Letters and a marvellous Muzzle of Bees that I have requested before the show to a real gentleman: Pat Sansone. Bye, Roby.
