cryptique
RIP, Kate. The matriarch of a remarkable musical family.
M. (hristine
Been a tough couple of months for the music biz. She was part of a certain musical royalty. I read that in spite of her illness she gave a three hour performance recently. Happy trails, Kate.
LouieB
There was no mention of Cal Smith here, but then again he was siginficantly older than Kate. This is again fairly sobering, since Kate was only a few years older than I am now. Really sad and again an indication of how short life can be. LouieB
W(TF)
Very sad indeed. My dad and stepmom raised their children in the west side of Outremont in Montreal, where Leonard Cohen, the McGarrigle sisters and the Wainwrights are indeed considered as local royalty. Kate was a wonderful singer, songwriter, and person.
LouieB
It is kind of strange that this thread got so little traffic....even if the McGarrigles weren't people's thing, Rufus and Martha have sure gotten big.... LouieB
RaspberryJam
I saw Loudon a couple months ago at the Infinity Music Hall in Norfolk, CT and he was great. He seemed a little put off that the place was only half full(and this place is tiny), but by the end of the night he was gregarious and having a lot of fun. After, he had a glass of wine and mingled. LouieB I frankly wouldn't have known who she was if it weren't for those two. I'm a fan of all the younger Wainwrights these days, including their half-sister Lucy. Mr. Heartbreak
I used to hear Kate and Anna McGarrigle on the folk music show on local radio jewel WMNF here in Tampa. Not a huge fan or anything, but I figured this was the appropriate place to post an RIP. I was honestly not aware of the connection to the Wainwright family.
