The new lighting designer's name is Michael Brown. Before this tour he was doing lights for Grizzly Bear, and Jeff loved his work so much, he swooped him up and said, "Be mine." He built the backdrop out of plastic rectangles and rivets. If you happen to see him, give him a hand shake or a hug... He's a great guy.

Here's the actual setlist, in order:

Bull Black Nova

You Are My Face

One Wing

I am Trying to Break Your Heart

Company in My Back

At Least That's What You Said

Deeper Down

Impossible Germany

Passenger Side

Handshake Drugs

Shot in the Arm

Remember the Mountain Bed

Jesus Etc.

Sonny Feeling

Hate It Here

Walken

I'm the Man Who Loves You

Hummingbird

----

Broken Arrow

Via Chicago

California Stars

Late Greats

Heavy Metal Drummer

Casino Queen

Hoodoo Voodoo

I'm a Wheel

Excellent show, but other than throwing Broken Arrow into the mix, I think the setlist was about as vanilla as they come. I was hoping for a few more "reaching into the catalog" songs, and not quite as many "we play these every single night" songs.

Thanks for posting this. While I didn't check WilcoBase, the songs that are in bold have not been on regular rotation for the last couple tours as I recall. I did not highlight any song on their record; they are supporting it now. Deeper Down has been played pretty infrequently. Broken Arrow is a cover.

I just hope we don't get into this after every show :lol

That being said, I am not a big fan of the Hate it Here/Walken/ITMWLY triplet.

It was clear the guys had been watching the Super Bowl AND The Who's halftime show because not only did Pat do some Townshend-esque windmills, Jeff also got into Daltrey mode by swinging his mic around in ever-increasing circles until he released it to do the Roger-catch... only to barely miss thumping Mikael with the flying mic, for which he promptly apologized. [chuckle...] Classic rock'n'roll f-ck-up moment, and I'm sure the THUNK of the mic hitting the deck will come through clearly on my buddy's recording.

Speaking of which, if it weren't for my buddy Mark I'd be wondering where were the tapers?! Mark's mics were set up directly FOB but maybe other tapers had worked their way forward. Anyway, I should have his recording in a few days and I'll certainly get it circulated asap.

Finally, I'll concur that Broken Arrow was done most appropriately straight, including the lovely drum cadence. It's a schooled-in-Neil version that will hopefully keep making regular appearances, though it looked like the young'uns were clueless as to what this "did you see them" song was.

Was there any new merchandise for this tour? I'm in the market for a new t-shirt.

I grabbed the new tour t-shirt: bright red shirt with a hand-drawn moosehead whose antlers spell out an oblique WILCO. Tour dates on the back, and VERY happy to have Missoula at the top of the list. My son went for the stickers and my wife went for WILCO (the tote). [chuckle...]

I think the band are pretty smart about how they do set-lists. If they are visiting cities that have never or rarely played before you'll get a set-list like this which includes a higher percentage of live staples. If they are playing a city they visit frequently then they mix up the set-list more attempting to play stuff they haven't in that city ever or for some time. Given this, the fact they solicit requests from the website and lastly they will be doing their next tour with no support act to allow for longer and more varied set-lists, really there is very little to gripe about.

pat's windmills and jeff's mic swings have been semi-regular staples for a while.

Very concerned by the appearance of only 4 songs from 'the album' @ this show and Portland... I guess Oregon did get a show on this tour last year (and was there one in Washington? Spokane maybe?) but I'd hate to see them in Seattle & BC and only hear 4 'new' songs... can't believe they've dropped stuff like 'You Never Know' and 'Wilco the Song', let alone 'I'll Fight', 'Country Disappeared'...

Sure, several of the songs have been given breaks lately, but with very few exceptions they've all been in regular to heavy rotation the past 3-4 years. If you break the setlist down by album, you'll see that they largely played the most common songs from each album.

There wasn't a single song from Being There, and nothing from Summerteeth besides the "big 2." YHF, AGIB, and SBS were represented only by the staples as well. Remember the Mountain Bed is a nice treat, but I've actually seen that song by far the most out of everything on the Mermaid Ave CDs (with Cali Stars probably 2nd).

I didn't mean for this to sound like a major gripe. It was still an awesome show and I hope they come back soon. My frustration was mostly inspired by how wildly varied the 2008 sets were, and how short lived that variety proved to be.

Pastor Tim - i think i met you at a yonder mountain show a year or two ago. I was following your setlists and show right wite-ups on PT that tour. Were you by chance able to record this show??? I am not really familiar with the Wilco taping policy. Anyways, nice to see you on this board too! Hope all is well.

Here it is -

Wilco Show Info and Policies

wilco does permit audio taping and trading of live performances wherever it does not conflict with venue or other restrictions beyond our control. we do not allow direct soundboard patches. we also do not allow videotaping. wilco supports the free trading of live recordings for non-commercial purposes.

Yep, I'm guessing that was Yonder at The Wilma, TBen. (See you for the 2-night tour-closer in April, I suppose?) I didn't record 02-07-2010 @ Missoula because I was with my wife & son, but a friend of mine did. It's been a week and I still haven't heard anything from him, but as soon as I do I'll post info here and a link to wherever the recording is shared.

  • 2 months later...

If you do a search in the In a Future Age section on the name Missoula, you will find some threads about a source. I think it was not something that would fly at a BT site, so it never ended up being posted anywhere. I think someone was sending the files around. Although, I don't really know all the details about that.
