W(TF)
In The Street by Big Star, a "70's band" that's had a huge influence on Tweedy & co. Big Star's Alex Chilton died recently and Wilco has been playing tribute songs at every show since.

Analogman
He is thinking of this: In 1999, the band (Cheap Trick) recorded a reworked cover of Big Star's "In the Street" for use as the theme song for the television show That '70s Show. It was released on the show's soundtrack, That '70s Album (Rockin').

Analogman
Anyone clued into to why they played that seventies song? Am I totally out of the loop on this one? I should have posted this before. Alex Chilton died recently. Chilton returned to Memphis in 1971 and joined the power-pop group Big Star, with Chris Bell, recording at engineer John Fry's Ardent Studios. Chilton and Bell co-wrote "In The Street" for Big Star's first album #1 Record, a track later known as the theme song of That '70s Show. I suppose we have to remember that Big Star was not exactly a top forty band that everyone would know about.
