bböp
A compact set tonight, which was expected going in since the band was only booked for an 80-minute time slot (9:40-11 p.m.). Jeff actually held up a digital clock that he had at his feet that read "11:00" on the dot as they finished I'm A Wheel, and waved good night. Once off stage, though, they must have gotten clearance to play one more song so they came back and did The Late Greats. One could tell that time was of the essence as they did away with "The Price Is Right" intro music as well as the "robot voice" band intros during Wilco (the song). And Glenn didn't do his Todd Trainer tribute before launching into I'm The Man Who Loves You. The setting for this festival was a tiny village in northern Belgium, not far from the North Sea. I assume most of the people in attendance were locals, but surprisingly (or perhaps not), there were more than a few people wearing Wilco T-shirts and scarves and the like. So that made for a better-than-average fest, I think. Personally, I'll always have a fond memory of this show. I had some great companions with me and it was the 10th anniversary, to the day, of my first Wilco show. Thinking back on all the great people I've met over the past decade because of this band, from New York to the North Sea, makes me realize how fortunate I am (and have been). So cheers to all my friends, and thanks to Wilco of course for making it all possible. Oh, and thanks for playing my "request." a-me-with-a-you
I assume most of the people in attendance were locals, but surprisingly (or perhaps not), there were more than a few people wearing Wilco T-shirts and scarves and the like. So that made for a better-than-average fest, I think. I was one of the cherry ghosts tee's (if there were others) present, I'm probably a local compared to people who came from abroad but I traveled a good 90 minutes to get to the show location. I also noticed quite a few people with band merchandise and fans who knew a lot of lyrics in the first couple of rows, a little surprising considering the desolate location. I've a hard time pinpointing the level of atmosphere b/c you can't see back past the first couple of rows and the sound of the music blurts out a lot of audience reaction. Since they did the encore I assumed the applause at the end was very enthusiastic, not surprising considering this is the only show Wilco will play in Belgium in the year 2010 (and the level of the performance). This was my third show and of course it can't begin compare to last year's show in AB (Brussels). Festival gigs are never quite as brilliant by almost any band. That show was AGIB and YHF heavy, and this one played a lot of SBS and WTA in addition to the chunk of the playlist which was once again Yankee Hotel. The overlap of setlists is large enough to wish for some more BT and ST. I'm just in a alt.country-Wilco craze at the moment, that's just my bad luck. You'll have less a "best-of" character in set list in indoor shows so I'm definitely looking forward to that next one. H.Stone
That was nicely said, P. And thanks for letting so many of us live vicariously through you for so long. Which was your "request"? Every time I see "I'm A Wheel" as the closer (or near closer as it turned out in this case), I am quickly and briefly transported to the final minutes of some of my favorite GA Wilco shows. I just love seeing it at the end of a set list!

Request in quotes because they were already all set to play You Never Know and Jeff said something like, 'Whatever you want to hear, as long as it's You Never Know." And thanks for reading, T! Personally I keep hoping the rave I'm A Wheel reappears sometime soon (hint, hint)...
H.Stone
Ha! I had forgotten about the rave version! Yep. A reappearance is in order.

a-me-with-a-you
...and some souvenirs from bböp's 10th anniversary of his first Wilco show. I stood right behind the girl with the dark hair in the back of the picture, straight in front of the camel-drum. Nice quality pictures, I still have to check mine for bluriness. I taped the Impossible Germany solo and a couple of fragments of some of my fav songs they did (Jesus etc, YAMF).
