High Land, Hard Rain is the only Aztec Camera disc I own and this song was one of the influencing forces on my decision to buy it .

I still absolutely adore the first two Aztec Camera albums (High Land, Hard Rain and the Mark Knopfler-produced Knife) - literate, beautiful, and catchy as hell.

Roddy Frame is a wonderful songwriter - and Oblivious is one of his best. I remember reading an interview with Elvis Costello from the early '80s where he said Roddy Frame was one of the few songwriters he was actually scared of.

 

I also love his voice and guitar playing. Here's a great acoustic version of Oblivious from a UK TV series from the 90s called 'Songwriters Circle':

i like the cover of 'Jump' the best.

 

Roddy seemed to run out of steam rather quickly, and the production of those two records hasn't aged well.

 

 

 

I'd say that Pat Fish (aka The Jazz Butcher) and Lawrence (of Felt) were far better unheralded songwriters of that era.

"Oblivious" is the first song I fell in love with - still love it!

 

I remember being 12 and off school sick. Mum came back from shopping in town, and she'd bought me high Land, Hard Rain.
