Sweet Papa Crimbo
Robert Quine's scorching solo in Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" may be the most chaotic solo ever in a top 40 song. It is subversive and definitely not sloopy, unlike a lot of chaotic guitar solos.
theashtraysays
The Flaming Lips "Powerless" came on my ipod today, and I decided it qualifies for this thread. I suspect there's more Lips stuff if I thought about it harder.
choo-choo-charlie
Heartbreaker or Achilles last stand from Zep? I was gonna say Heartbreaker for sure. A lot of the live stuff is pretty chaotic & somewhat sloppy too. Live versions of "Since I've Been Loving You," one of my fave Zep tunes, have a lot of messy guitar work going on.
