tinnitus photography
with Kim and Thurston announcing a separation, this throws serious doubts into whether or not Sonic Youth will continue. they are certainly one of my favorites, and embody a lot of what i feel music should be. fun, creative, expansive, powerful. they never really stayed in one place (though there is definitely an identifiable SY sound), and helped a lot of people along the way. their influence is pretty massive, given their relatively paltry record sales as measured by conventional standards. they might be the band I've seen the most play live, and they never ever came close to delivering anything but a stellar show. i hope get another chance to see them. I took this shot at the end of the last song ("Death Valley '69") of the set, at the last time i saw 'em (Matador 21). wishing for happier times for the band and their families. LouieB
Other bands with married couples survive. This is business, so I am guessing they will continue. Hell in some bands (the Rolling Stones for example) the members don't even talk to each other off stage. LouieB
KevinG
White Stripes survived and florished after their divorce. Also there is Fleetwood Mac, they seemed to be alright post divorice.

tinnitus photography
well, they did take a good chunk of time off before _Riot Now!_ came out.
LouieB
well, they did take a good chunk of time off before _Riot Now!_ came out. They have taken alot of time off between most of their albums during the last decade actually. They rarely tour and rarely even play Chicago. Considering Sonic Youth is a going concern (and EDD really is not), I don't think SY will stop performing as a group. Unlike EDD where the lead guitarist and songwriter is a high school teacher, SY doesn't have day jobs. The rest of EDD also are pretty much full time musicians (well at least Doug McCombs is.) Love Boat Captain
Drive-By Truckers, as Jason Isbell and Shonna Tucker were married. Granted, they did not last long in that incarnation once issues arose, but they are still an ongoing unit.
LouieB
Sorry I just don't believe that any musical group would stop just because of a marriage breaking up. Serious artistic differences maybe, but they don't call it show business for nothin'. Expect SY to be back in business sometime in the future. LouieB
tinnitus photography
it could be a Jarboe-less Swans situation, who knows.

willywoody
I'll add this to the fire, but I thought it was interesting that Thurston, Steve, and Lee signed on with the Occupy Musicians but Kim did not.
