u2roolz
$43.99 for The Whole Love + a tin of popcorn. Hmm. That sounds like a night at the movies.Only $4 goes to charity? That's very sad. Popcorn is so cheap to make and that tin looks cheap too. "Jane Addams Hull House Association, an organization that focuses on improving the living conditions of underserved citizens. With 86 percent of the association’s clients living below the poverty line, its services reach all types of people in areas ranging from child care to senior programs, and from economic development to homeless services." While I respect the effort, it just doesn't seem right that a cd costing $10 is bundled up with something that in no way should cost $30. And from that a tiny portion goes to help a nice cause. choo-choo-charlie
I did spend just about that much a few weeks ago for two movie tickets, two drinks and one bag of popcorn. Robbery I say. Some of the comments are great in this story. My favorites are "A Ghost is Corn," "She's a Tin" and "Pot Kettle (of popcorn) Black."
jcroach
Wow. Cool promotion linking up with another Chicago company, but yikes! $30 for a tin of popcorn?! I just looked at their website that that's actually a slight discount for the regular price. A 1 gallon tin of Chicago mix is usually $31! Just as a comparison, an Indianapolis company I like to go to sells a 1 gallon tin for $27. Yeah, movie theaters make a big percentage of their money on Popcorn and drinks. The mark-up for those two products is crazy. Popcorn 900% markup: http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2010/news/1001/gallery.americas_biggest_ripoffs/2.htmldrinks 300-600% markup: http://www.toptenz.net/top-10-biggest-price-markups.php
LouieB
Hull House is a good place to donate some money. I prefer just plain cararmel corn. But just for the record, Garretts is some really fine corn, maybe some of the best you will ever eat. But you can go in and buy a couple bags for alot less without the can and drop four bucks on Hull House yourself if you like. LouieB
Sandoz
That popcorn is REALLY good. Also, complimentary bags of Garrett's Triple Mix popcorn were passed out at this year's Solid Sound Festival
LouieB
All in all this is kind of a cool promo when you think about it. Garretts is a local chain, makes great popcorn and employees lots of local folks, Hull House is a great place to drop some money, and it gets Wilco out there to people who ordinarily wouldn't know about them (believe it or not.)
