bböp
I presently am sitting in East Berlin and will see them this saturday and then sunday fly home to madison...I hope the crowd is more lively...any suggestions Mr. Cheeztastic? Doubt there's much anyone can do about it, I'm afraid. By and large it just sort of seems to be the way of the Germans, especially when given an option to sit down. It's not even the standing/sitting thing as much as it seems like a lot of the crowds here are just more cerebral when it comes to music. I realize different people engage with music in different ways, but it is a little mystifying to me when you look around and barely see any heads bobbing or toes tapping. Germans are definitely appreciative of good music, don't get me wrong, but I just mean to say that a lot of them don't seem to really engage with the music as much as observe it. Maybe Berlin will be different. One never knows...
craigwinn
It seems like with their choice of venues on this tour (stately opera houses, theaters, and the like) the band are hoping people will sit. It's a shame, because I prefer to stand at shows and get into the music. But I also appreciate the ability to LISTEN to the music without people jabbering away during the quiet songs. So sitting isn't a deal-killer I'll be in Berlin on Saturday in my nice seat. Can't wait to see the reaction from the people behind when I get up during Shot in the Arm.... pillowy star
Well, people sitting down doesn't necessarily mean they won't talk during the songs (in Frankfurt there were 2 guys sitting right behind us, yapping away all the time, except the 4 or 5 times one of them went out to have a smoke) I think us Germans just aren't used to people immediately standing up from their seats as soon as the main act comes on stage, like I've been able to experience it many times in the US. It's a tricky situation, because if only a few people get up, they get in the way of those still sitting, and block their sight. So it's really up to the band to encourage everyone to stand up, right at the beginning of the show if it was up to me. I find it almost unbearable to sit down during a Wilco set
Albert Tatlock
That's becoming quite a common 1, 2, 3 on this tour, and for good reason ...
