My favorite cover of Masters of War is by the Scott Amendola Band. I always dug Mountain as a youth. I went to a show that Mountain was supposed to headline back in the early 70s. They pulled out and Little Richard did it instead. I mean, the playing is outstanding, but the versions of the songs are all a little too reverent. Good. But not much more.Really, the best thing about it is the story that accompanies it, about Lloyd's personal relationship with Jimi, who was a friend of a friend, and the night that he got decked by him.
