kouzie
Hi all, New to the forum and heading to the Metro show Friday night. What has everybody's experience been about the band signing something (poster, album...) after a show. Is it worth it to stick around a bit? I've seen Jeff a few times solo at the long departed (and loved) Lounge Ax, but somehow, this is the first time I've seen the band live. Thanks!!Chris
SarahC
I have better luck talking to the band pre-show than after. Try the afternoons.... around soundcheck time.

maxspr1
Both times I've seen the band this tour, I've hung around after the show and met everyone but Jeff Tweedy. They were all incredibly nice to the fans and talked, signed and posed for pics for everyone there. I wrote a little about my experience this past weekend in the Detroit thread in the After the Show section if you want more details. Not sure why Jeff wasn't around. I'd love to meet him but i'm not complaining--after all, I paid for tickets to a rock concert and i got more than my money's worth both times--Jeff and the other guys don't owe me anything else. The only real advice I can offer based on my experience is that if you're going to wait after the show, be prepared to wait a looong time. Both times at least an hour passed before the band stepped outside. Oh, yeah--one other thing: don,t forget to bring a pen if you want something signed. Sounds obvious, but in Detroit, only two of us waiting (out of about a dozen people) had a pen on hand!

I met him in Charleston a few years ago. Him and Michael both went to the rear of the venue right after the show and stood in the rain for nearly an hour, signing autographs etc. Jeff was a little spaced out, but Michael was very friendly. I thought it was very cool of them to go out in the rain to meet fans and I thanked them for it.
Sweet Papa Crimbo
When MY SON and I showed up for the Dallas show 3 1/2 hours early (there were actually 7 people there before us), a man and his very young son had a signed CD insert from the Band. I think they got there around 3.
ELS
I live fairly close to The Vic and Metro, so I'm thinking about swinging by around soundcheck. Here's a really dorky story... I learned how to play guitar when I was thirteen and starting writing my own songs when I was fourteen. (I'm 22 now) My favorite bands at the time (and still to this day) were R.E.M. and Wilco. The one musical goal my 14-year-old self had was to have my songs heard by someone from those bands. I didn't want anything out of it. I mean, it would be nice if they thought, "This isn't the absolute worst thing I've heard"... Anyway, last spring I was able to give Mike Mills a CD with a few songs on it and explain how R.E.M. really got me into music and influenced my decision to pick up the guitar. Hopefully this week I'll be able to finish the second half of my goal and make my teenage self proud.
SarahC
ELS.... that's not dorky! That's awesome! I too started playing guitar young (11) and I'm 24 now. The first time I met Jeff, I said something like "Oh my gosh, when I first started playing guitar I started jumping off my amps like you used to when you were in the Primitives!!" he was really funny about it, and said something like "My knees can't handle all that now!"
