Vacant Horizon
the ripple effect of megaupload's shutdown has been incredible.
Mr. Heartbreak
I'm horrified by it. I download a lot of stuff, and I have never considered filesharing on this level to be "stealing." It's more like trading old Dead bootlegs, except there's no cassette tape involved. Glad I got so much stuff while I could.
Oil Can Boyd
I don't know if this link will work, but David Lowery (Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven) has been writing about this extensively on facebook and some of the discussion is both heated and interesting. At one point he posts a screenshot from Mediashare showing every CVB album being illegally shared. https://www.facebook.com/davidclowery He also posts "The top 10 lamest excuses for stealing artists music" at his own website: http://300songs.com/
Analogman
I know a guy who has a nice FLAC blog where he shares current live shows and old live show bootlegs. He has never offered any sort of stuff you could buy on his blog. And he has thousands of shows up there. He also paid a lot of money for a lifetime Megaupload account. So this was not a great thing for him.
Vacant Horizon
it was nice being able to find rare and out of print stuff. at the same time, dave lowery has a point.
KevinG
Jonathan Coulton has written about Megaupload on his blog. It seems to make sense to me. http://www.jonathancoulton.com/2012/01/21/megaupload/
Vacant Horizon
Jonathan Coulton has written about Megaupload on his blog. It seems to make sense to me. http://www.jonathanc.../21/megaupload/ this is interesting. personally, stuff i have allegedly downloaded i would never ever buy in the first place. the other thing is that people got tired of buying a cd for one song and getting burned when most CDs sucked. also, music is way too expensive and always has been. 9.99 for a disposable download? really.
