......you get to revisit fond memories like this, dated 3-12-02. I miss the innocence I've known!

Greetings friends,

It's been a long haul, but we're now only 6 or so weeks away from the

release of "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" on April 23. First of all we want to thank

everyone for keeping the faith for the better part of a year while we sorted

things out. It was a tough year on so many levels; but, we made it and

we've got a lot to be thankful for.

Last night was essentially the beginning of the "official" tour in support of

"YHF" and as you can see from the dates on the site, Wilco are now going

into full-on touring mode. Keep an eye on the "Tours" section of

wilcoworld.net for new tour and ticket info, as we try to add it to the site as

soon as we know it.

As the April 23 release date approaches, together, we have the opportunity

to prove a lot of people wrong by showing that trusting your fans and letting

them hear your music via the internet is not the threat to the artist's

livelihood that some people in the music business would like us all to believe.

Just because we made "YHF" available from our site via the QuickTime stream

and unauthorized copies of the record have been widely available online

since last summer doesn't have to have a negative effect on sales. In

addition, we've added some "enhanced" content and wrapped it all in a really

beautiful package, which I think you're really going to like, not to mention the

disc sounds a lot better than those MP3's you've been listening too all along.

To further help "the cause", there are extremely valuable things you can do:

First and foremost, there's the most basic stuff like turning your friends on to

music you care about, supporting touring bands, etc. Secondly, you can call

and/or email your favorite radio station(s) and request music you care about.

I can't overstate how helpful this is... phone calls and emails are actually

something that radio programmers respond to. Additionally, when and if you

do hear music you like on the radio, call and/or email the station and thank

them for playing it, whatever "it" may be. I hasten to add that this tactic can

and should be employed for any band/artist you care about. This is not just

about Wilco.

Okay, enough of my pleading. Some stuff: to the hundreds of people who

have written us from Australia -- I give you my word that Wilco will appear in

Australia sometime in late 2002/early 2003. We're looking into it now and

hope to have some news for you in the coming months. We should have done

it ages ago but... well, something always came up. This time they're there, I

mean it.

Also, in the touring section of the site, note that the 2 shows in NYC at the

Bowery Ballroom (25-26 April) will be going on sale via wilcoworld on March

25, 2 days earlier than to the general public. If history is any indication, these

shows will sell-out very quickly, so we're happy we can give you first crack at

tickets. There will be a 4-ticket per show maximum per person and we'll only

have a limited number to sell. So act fast.

Wilco will also be appearing on Late Night with David Letterman on April 30,

so mark your calendars. And everyone here is looking forward to the

European tour in May -- it's been a long time since we've been over.

Meanwhile, Sam Jones is locked away in an editing room somewhere

assembling the miles of footage he shot into a film, which we hear will be out

late this summer or early fall. They finally got the long rumored "WilcoFilm"

shirts made, and they're available from the wilcofilm site.

Hope to see you out there and thanks for listening. Onward, through the fog.

whoa....this is TOTALLY freaky! i just blew the dust off my copy of I Am Trying to Break Your Heart and watched it tonight. I came on here to post that SO much has changed over the course of these past ten years with this band, and it's been fun watching it and being a fan of this great band.

so...thanks for giving me a thread to post to!

(and so cool that you still have that email!)
