kidsmoke
......you get to revisit fond memories like this, dated 3-12-02. I miss the innocence I've known! Greetings friends, It's been a long haul, but we're now only 6 or so weeks away from therelease of "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" on April 23. First of all we want to thankeveryone for keeping the faith for the better part of a year while we sortedthings out. It was a tough year on so many levels; but, we made it andwe've got a lot to be thankful for. Last night was essentially the beginning of the "official" tour in support of"YHF" and as you can see from the dates on the site, Wilco are now goinginto full-on touring mode. Keep an eye on the "Tours" section ofwilcoworld.net for new tour and ticket info, as we try to add it to the site assoon as we know it. As the April 23 release date approaches, together, we have the opportunityto prove a lot of people wrong by showing that trusting your fans and lettingthem hear your music via the internet is not the threat to the artist'slivelihood that some people in the music business would like us all to believe.Just because we made "YHF" available from our site via the QuickTime streamand unauthorized copies of the record have been widely available onlinesince last summer doesn't have to have a negative effect on sales. Inaddition, we've added some "enhanced" content and wrapped it all in a reallybeautiful package, which I think you're really going to like, not to mention thedisc sounds a lot better than those MP3's you've been listening too all along. To further help "the cause", there are extremely valuable things you can do:First and foremost, there's the most basic stuff like turning your friends on tomusic you care about, supporting touring bands, etc. Secondly, you can calland/or email your favorite radio station(s) and request music you care about.I can't overstate how helpful this is... phone calls and emails are actuallysomething that radio programmers respond to. Additionally, when and if youdo hear music you like on the radio, call and/or email the station and thankthem for playing it, whatever "it" may be. I hasten to add that this tactic canand should be employed for any band/artist you care about. This is not justabout Wilco. Okay, enough of my pleading. Some stuff: to the hundreds of people whohave written us from Australia -- I give you my word that Wilco will appear inAustralia sometime in late 2002/early 2003. We're looking into it now andhope to have some news for you in the coming months. We should have doneit ages ago but... well, something always came up. This time they're there, Imean it. Also, in the touring section of the site, note that the 2 shows in NYC at theBowery Ballroom (25-26 April) will be going on sale via wilcoworld on March25, 2 days earlier than to the general public. If history is any indication, theseshows will sell-out very quickly, so we're happy we can give you first crack attickets. There will be a 4-ticket per show maximum per person and we'll onlyhave a limited number to sell. So act fast. Wilco will also be appearing on Late Night with David Letterman on April 30,so mark your calendars. And everyone here is looking forward to theEuropean tour in May -- it's been a long time since we've been over.Meanwhile, Sam Jones is locked away in an editing room somewhereassembling the miles of footage he shot into a film, which we hear will be outlate this summer or early fall. They finally got the long rumored "WilcoFilm"shirts made, and they're available from the wilcofilm site. Hope to see you out there and thanks for listening. Onward, through the fog. tm

kidsmoke
Yeah, this really takes me back. I can remember who I was and what I was doing at that time. I may have to make this into a series...I have several from 2002.
Queen Amaranthine
Yes, make it into a series! I became an instant fan in April 2002 (and a LOT has changed in my life over the years), so it would be fun to read these. There's something to be said for not cleaning out your inbox or archives often.
