bjorn_skurj
I think you gotta wait for some of the GOP-appointed Supremes to depart before that lawsuit would succeed.
Ghost of Electricity
you are unfortunately correct
Hixter
If the families of everyone killed in gun violence got together and filed a class action suit against the NRA and weapons manufacturers, they could be legally responsible for them, or at least a portion of them.No they couldn't. The NRA advocates the safe and lawful exercising of the rights offered by the Second Amendment. They are not encouraging unlawful gun crime in any way, shape or form. If our elected officials were really serious about reducing gun crime instead of vilifying legal gun owners, they'd address this instead of harping about magazine capacities and so-called "assault" weapons:http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/feature/wp/2013/03/22/gun-deaths-shaped-by-race-in-america/
Ghost of Electricity
I'm not disagreeing that those issues should be addressed, they should be. But well and truly addressing them means addressing other issues like education, unemployment, and distribution of wealth. Yes, let's do that too.
lost highway
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/feature/wp/2013/03/22/gun-deaths-shaped-by-race-in-america/ And how have the Asian people been doing as a whole?
Guest Don Draper
Hixter points out the obvious - if we are going to hold a lobbying organization accountable for buttering people up to shape the definitions of "lawful" in their favor, then it comes to pass that we would have to hold the elected officials accountable as well So why not just go after the manufacturers and the shooters and the sellers? Ghost of Electricity
That chart is unclear, or I'm missing something. is the rate 1.4 deaths among 100k white people or of 100k people of all color there are 1.4 white deaths? If the latter is the case then the statistic for Native American/Alaskan populations is by far the most disturbing.
Guest Don Draper
Yeah, the natives have had a rough go of it for some reason.
Ghost of Electricity
hmmm. it's not like they were victims of the most successful genocide in the history of humankind or anything, having their social structures torn asunder and their land taken from under their feet while looking sown the barrel of the white man's (wait for it)...gun. But I digress.
lost highway
I've always said the best thing for a Belgian with a gun is a Samoan (if not a Uruguayan) with a gun. Saving lives man, saving lives.

uncool2pillow
I like the gun discussion, but am glad it's out of the political thread.
Guest Don Draper
Most issues are probably best discussed outside of a political thread.
bjorn_skurj
I gotta say, I kind of regret not getting my pistol permit 20 years ago when old Sheriff Quinlan gave them out to anyone who could complete the paperwork, because he believed people shouldn't need a permit to carry a pistol.
