brownie
I agree with every word in this piece. I think about this almost every day: ”but on top of everything else I am grappling with, the thought that I am in the final act of concert-going, because of the economics, both me not being able to afford a ticket, and artists at any level below mega-star being able to afford to tour.”
tinnitus photography
i think that certain bands might be forced into just regional touring, short runs. driving a van across the country to make $75 a night and split it 4-5 ways just ain't a way to live.
calvino
One the of the ways we used to get tickets was going to a Ticketmaster in a 'less than desired' neighborhood --- but even back then, every now and then a van would pull up and out came 5 or 6 people who looked like they were being paid to buy tickets, to be scalped later.... theashtraysays
Good read - thanks for posting. I have no answers, but I'm pretty optimistic it'll sort itself out without imploding. Covid changed everything. I don't think we know how (collectively) to reset long term yet. Work, school, live music... all of it.
