Brian F.
I listened. FYI, what you called "Let's Hear It for Rock N' Roll" is "Hesitation Rocks." It was released on the deluxe edition of A.M.
used_to_be
that's awesome! How did we miss that?? What's crazier is that the opening of this recording sounds so much like "Let's Not Get Carried Away". Thanks for sharing... it felt strange that they wouldn't put it out on Alpha Mike or something... but there it is on AM-Deluxe. Very cool. the original setlist for the CICERO's gig lists it with that other title ("Let's Hear It...") -- check the YouTube notes -- likely made up by whoever had the recording. here's a frame from the video with the full setlist:
Brian F.
Alpha Mike Foxtrot wasn't a collection of unreleased songs. It was actually a compilation of songs that had been released in a variety of places: B-sides, promotional releases, movie soundtracks, benefit albums, Wilcoworld downloads, etc. Everything on Alpha Mike Foxtrot had been previously released. used_to_be
right... I guess my point was that AMF was a release of "rare tracks" that came out in 2014... so, why not include something that was coming on the '17 AM-Deluxe? I guess I had confused the timeline and missed the unreleased stuff on the reissue. Thanks for pointing it out!
Brian F.
Right, Alpha Mike Foxtrot was a collection of "rare" tracks, not "unreleased" tracks. It was intended to provide one-stop shopping for all of the songs that had been dribbled out on various singles and collections over 20 years. It eliminated the need to go hunting for very rare items, and some of them had never been available at all on CD. And adding things like "Hesitation Rocks" would have left them with nothing new for the A.M. and Being There rereleases. The A.M. rerelease was sparse even with "Hesitation Rocks." Was Cars Can't Escape on any offical released before AMF? Was it a Wilcoworld download?
Brian F.
Yes, it was a Wilcoworld download.
used_to_be
my first exposure to ”Cars Can’t Escape” was Sam Jones’ IATTBYH documentary and I found a way to record the audio directly from the film… so that’s the “live demo” version that I’ve been used to hearing for so long!

If I remember correctly the version of Cars on AMF was more 'complete' than the version we had before that. I think the outro was longer as well. Maybe I never had the official version and only ever had one of the versions from the leaks.
