  1. Worse than learning through a craigslist link would be learning through a post titled "Wilco breking Up?"

Honestly, when that day comes, where else will most of us possibly find out but here? Better here than for Jeff to 'tweet' it.

  2. Has anyone else noticed the ad for the Rhapsody iPhone app that has the drops of water that show album covers inside the drops. The very first one is YHF, which quickly recedes to the back and is replaced by a deluge of other albums, none of which are nearly as clearly visible.

  3. In '04 at one of their LA shows I actually got to be in the front row. I'm NEVER in the front row. For anything. So damn it, I was going to make the most of it and take my camera and get some pics. It's just a little digital point-n-shoot snapshoty type camera, so I knew that with no flash 99% of them would be totally blurry crap. I didn't block anyone's view and got, what I thought, were some pretty good shots. I like the artsy blur. At one point during Hummingbird Jeff walked directly over to me and shook my hand. I was the only person he did that with all night (except Kidsmoke's daughter got to sing with him, but that's different.) It wasn't until later that it dawned on me WHEN in Hummingbird he shook my hand... during the line, "his goal in life was to be an echo."

Oops. Oh well. I'm still glad I took the pics. I have good mementos and, much like keeping score at a baseball game, taking pictures keeps me more focused on my surroundings. But if I do get back to the front row, I'll probably just look at someone else's pictures on-line the next day.

  4. This thread seems as a good as any to ask something i've been wondering for awhile. I've always wondered about a few name pronunciations (I feel very lame not knowing this btw). Is Glenn's last name pronounced "Koch" or "Kochee" or some other variation? And is Mikael's name pronounced "Mick-ale" or "Michael"? I really ought to know this but I figured I would just get it straightened out for certain.

    Thanks :thumbup

I'm glad you're brave enough to ask! I've thought about posting this same question many times and chickened-out. (Not sure why.)

  5. Wow. Didn't expect quite this response. At least I like the Beatles.

As for Hotel Arizona, the problem for me is that it's way too literal and straightforward. The really great Wilco songs seem to be more metaphorical (Hell is Chrome), paint a great mental picture (Sky Blue Sky), or leave you guessing and/or let you fill in the gaps with your imagination (Poor Places, Misunderstood).

There is also, for me at least, a fine line between atmospheric and dull. Wishful Thinking and Radio Cure are both on the wrong side of that line for me.

:blink mr. kinsley! are your kids driving yet?

Hey! What's up! No, they aren't driving. But we do let them ride the mile and a half to pre-school on their Big Wheels by themselves.*

*Yes, I'm kidding. No, don't call Child Protective Services.

  6. AM: Passenger Side / It's Just That Simple

    BT: Misunderstood / Hotel Arizona*

ST: I'm Always in Love / We're Just Friends*

YHF: Poor Places# / Radio Cure

    AGIB: Theologians / Wishful Thinking*

SBS: You Are My Face / Shake It Off*

W(ta): Bull Black Nova / Sonny Feeling

*Some of my least favorite songs of all-time, by anyone. Nails on a chalkboard.

    #Greatest song ever written

  7. A lot of this discussion seems to hinge on the concept of "favorite" vs. "best." The Beatles are the best band of all time, but Wilco is my favorite. On my beloved Laker's teams of the 80's Magic and Kareem were clearly the best players, but scrappy Kurt Rambis always held a special place in my heart.

In answer to the original question, no, there's nothing wrong with you. As long as you can acknowledge quality despite not actively participating in it, you're ok. A lot of rap music is like that for me. I can see where people could get into certain acts even though they aren't for me.

  8. I've been a fan of Wilco for 9 yrs but just discovered this site. Anyway, I don't want my husband to think I'm obsessed so I only told him about one of the two dreams I had about Wilco this past week & my son teases me about the crush he thinks I have on Tweedy.

Funny, my wife thinks I have a crush on Jeff, too!

    :dontgetit

Whenever she hears a song she doesn't like (especially with any sort of feedback or noise) she asks, "Is this Wilco?"

I think she's starting to lose patience with me over this, because both the kids and HER MOM are now listening to W(TA). She's now alone on her little non-Wilco island and not digging it.
