  1. I think you missed the point. I believe the point being made is this: Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold didn't listen to much Marilyn Manson and early indications are that Jared Laughner didn't listen to much Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, or Rush Limbaugh.

Like I said earlier, they pollute the culture as do a lot of other things. And all the background noise of divisiveness and hatred in politics, entertainment, video games, etc. takes its toll on all of us in ways we cannot quantify, but to use this tragedy to blame political opponents when no evidence exists to support it is plain wrong.

i have a feeling some evidence is gonna surface. im sick of all this hatred from the right so called "christian" conservatives..just sick of it. palin beck and limbaugh disgust me.

See, that analogy doesn't work for me. Though his songs cover dark subject matter, to my knowledge, Marilyn Manson never went out of his way to single out jocks, the popular crowd, etc, for punishment. Whereas, Beck, Limbaugh, Palin, et al compare liberals to traitors, insist they are willfully attempting to bring this country down, subvert it, etc. I read Cullen's Columbine, and I get where you're coming from, but I feel there is a distincition to be made between this event, and the circus environment that quickly descended on Columbine.

    From Andrew Sullivan's site:

    3.31 pm A reader writes:

I am standing in the aisle at Costco when I found out my Congresswomen, Gabrielle Giffords, has been shot dead up on the north side.

While I’m scrambling with my phone, two couples in front of me are talking about it and suddenly I hear one of the women say, “Well, that’s to be expected when you’re so liberal.”

And the other woman says, “Ohh, so we get to appoint a Republican?”

I did not trust myself to speak. I’m a Soldier. Please remind me what country I am fighting for? At least seven people are dead. She happens to be the only member of Congress married to an active duty military — he’s a Navy officer serving as an astronaut.

my stomach turned when i read what those 2 women said...sickens me

  2. As attractive as that could be, I think it is a pipe dream. Albums of cover songs are the provence of artists out of ideas or needing to burn up a record company contract.

i know its a pipe dream, (wishful thinking)..i guess i just have to make my own cd of just jeff covers one of these days

  3. Request list for the covers? Be Not So Fearful and Pink Moon come immediately to mind.

request list for covers,..every cover he has ever covered, i love them all, the lastest one i've heard is a song i didn't know existed called 'sometimes it happens' a song linda thompson covered on one of her albums but according to jeff is "utter dogshit" :lol he played it at the yo la tengos hannukah night on dec 3rd.

i also love a lot the cover he does of blondies 'dreamin' he used to do years ago at lounge ax

  4. OK. I highly doubt it, but wouldn't it be something for either Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert to be there for just a little bit of something? They don't shoot shows on these 3 days of the week, so there is a very slight possibility.

I'd like to see John Hodgman and John Oliver do something. I know that they were in attendance at the 1st one. Judah Friedlander. Craig Ferguson - he should be in Boston that week for the 4th of July festivities. I don't know. It's tough to think of comedians that aren't well known that would fit the bill and not draw a huge crowd. Perhaps Aziz Ansari? Flight Of The Conchords?

Films: I'd like to see about 4 films to choose from: an obscure arthouse film, a documentary, something a bit more mainstream, and a music documentary. I was thinking of possibly having Sam Jones' film never-before-seen outtakes, but that seems like too much Wilco.

Multimedia: Something along the lines of Emergency Broadcast System. And perhaps a live visual representation of actual photographs taken by the folks in attendance at the festival. For example, you take a picture and send it to some virtual address and it ends up on some giant wall that has pictures coming in live.

Part II: Something along the lines of taking your phone and zapping bar codes throughout the MoCa to earn points to download the new Wilco single before anyone else. This is all dependent on when that comes out in 2011.

For The Kids: Something fun and informative and creative. Maybe a bit of music, painting and learning to use video equipment.

Music: This list is just a dream list and I'd be really happy if half of these bands were there. If not, then that is fine.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals (I literally sat behind Grace at Wilco's Concord NH show, so maybe there's some interest from both sides?)

    Beach House

    Mumford & Sons

    Broken Bells

    Sleigh Bells

    Band Of Horse

    Deerhunter

    Mission Of Burma

    Sonic Youth

Neil Young (he should be this year's Mavis Staples.)

Somewhat some big names that I provided, but I wonder if they need to up the ante to sweeten the pot a little bit. You figure there's only 1 full day of music on Saturday and one night (Friday) and one half day (Sunday). That doesn't leave too much time. Maybe a fellow VCer's band gets to play at a stage?

i love your live picture/the films/zapping the new single/neil young ideas. but im afraid with neil young or someone as big as neil it would be too overwhelming.

  5. He's right on top of the mic, so it's a mechanical issue. Maybe it's what's being picked up on the stream. I was there for Jeff's show, and you could hear him just fine, so I think it's in the transmission. It's gotten (a little) better as the performance proceeds.

it did get a little better, i really enjoyed that, they are talented kids. i wonder what happened to the other blister, dylan

  6. After a few false starts, I was able to secure 2 rooms at the Holiday Inn and I am thrilled! HOWEVER . . .they are smoking rooms, and we would greatly prefer non-smoking. (I just found out that one of the couples has a severely asthmatic daughter.)

Is there anyone on this board who has booked one or more non-smoking rooms at the Holiday Inn who would be willing to exchange your reservation for mine? The rooms I have booked have 2 queen beds in the room. I'd love to find 2 non-smoking rooms, but would greatly appreciate even one. I've checked with the hotel directly and they definitely said they can't switch me out.

Oh, by the way, our reservations are for 4 nights, beginning Thursday, 6/23 and checking out Monday, 6/27. Thanks!

how did you do this when the guy said it was completely booked??

  7. Just to confirm...are we talking about the last weekend in June?

    yeah, i was inquiring about the 24, 25, 26

I just got the last room at Blackinton Manor, 2 miles from MassMoca. Yeeeeeeow! Minorly bummed that we won't be at the Holiday Inn again, but so psyched to be celebrating our 12th anniversary the Solid Sound way!!! Now I just need to cancel the HI rooms I had reserved for every weekend in August...

i tried calling this place and nobody picked up! dammit,..happy for you tho
