  1. i reaaallly want to see daft punk. but i dont even get out of work until 5, meaning id pretty much just catch lcd and daft. unfortunately, i dont think its worth 80 bucks (not to mention lcd ends at the exact same time daft starts. idiotic).

i think ill just save my money and do pitchfork instead.

  2. I loathe Pop/Zooropa - but I do rather like that song Please.

I've just never understood the hate for these albums. Its totally unjustified. Zooropa, Dirty Day, The Wanderer, Please, Do You Feel Loved, Discotheque, Gone, Last Night On Earth, Mofo...all among their best work. And I hate the fact that they refuse to play ANY of it live.

Their attitude was different back then too. Sure, they dated supermodels, put on stage shows that almost bankrupt them, used alteregos, and wore outrageous clothes, but the whole point was that it was IRONIC. Now, they've totally lost sight of that and actually become what they used to poke fun at.

  3. For me, it's the three before that - The Unforgettable Fire/Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum.

dont get me wrong, the 80s stuff is good. but it was awesome when they were pushing boundaries in the 90s. the last 2 are absolute trash, and ive pretty much lost any respect i mite have had for bono.

  4. USCellular has actually upgraded the place significantly. It's a great place to see a ball game and you'll save money. The downfall is the night life after the game. If you are looking for a party, go to Wrigley. If you are looking to watch baseball, go to USCellular.

Completely agree. I have never understood all the heat that park has taken. Is it the best in the majors? No. But it is definitely far from worst. A solid upper-middle of the packer. When the park first opened, it was praised and everyone loved it. It wasnt until the whole "retro" phase kicked in immediately thereafter (i.e. Camden Yards) that suddenly everyone turned against it. Personally, I dont like the retros...dripping with fake tacky nostalgia, looking backwards rather than forward. And now theres a glut of those cookie cutter designs. When the Cell opened it was rather sterile. But the improvements they have implemented almost total the cost of a new ballpark. And its a damn good one at that. Food? Some of THE best for any sporting park/arena. You can tailgate before the game. Best modern scoreboard in MLB. Great sightlines from just about everywhere. From the upper deck you get skyline views. Kid friendly. Easy parking. All sorts of cool "alternative" places to watch the game (wide concourse, Bar next to the bullpen, field level patio, Fan Deck in center field, restaurant/club in right field, Fundamentals Deck in left field). And the people there truly care about the teams performance.

And yes, the nightlife is somewhat limited. But as Bridgeport continues to grow at a breakneck pace, that will hopefully change eventually. (And I've never understood those who call the area "bad". Its a classic Chicago middle-class neighborhood)

  5. Was this VW ad the reason why "The Thanks I Get" was left off of SBS? I'd be ticked if they intentionally left off a great song like that because of the commercial.

personally, im glad the song was left out. i was never a fan of it.

i dont get the selling out shit. they're on a label owned by a massive conglomerate. its not as if they're on a truly independent label like touch and go, or going the DIY route. if you're going to cry "sellout", then i hope you were saying the same the day they signed to warner.

  6. Just got an email from MMJ website yesterday. Their set at Lolla will be with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. :thumbup Their last show in Chicago included the symphony for 3-4 songs and it was really good.

i was there for that, very awesome.

  7. i think it would be really cool and great chance to see a once in a lifetime type thing. my grandma lived in LA during the 84 Olympics and said she didn't even remember it having a big traffic impact. not to say that it wouldn't, but maybe its not as bad as people think. People from out of town wont generally be driving cars, they'll be hailing cabs and on the train/bus. i don't klnow about beating out those other cities, though. Chicago is a great city but, that will be tough.

madrid will be a no-no after london. tokyo has hosted before, and asia will have the games in 2008. the real competition will be rio. and if they land the '14 fifa world cup, chicagos odds go up higher. i think its chicagos games to lose. also, chicago is still relatively undiscovered throughout the rest of the world, despite being an alpha world city (the highest classification). there is a large curiosity factor.

They tried that in NY but aside from those who had a vested interest in seeing it happen there seemed to be little support for it.

polls show support for chicago games among residents around 80-85%.

  8. if the Olympics comes to Chicago - I am moving.

Well....2016? I hope I will have moved by then anyway. :P

ive never understood why people are so opposed to the games. its at most a month of inconvenience, while the rewards will last a lifetime. i think people who say they dont want the games because of traffic, being crowded, etc, are being pretty selfish. this is something for the greater good. if it means things like improvements for mass transit and other infastructure can be fastracked, im all for it. i just cant understand something as drastic as moving because a sporting event would come to town. seems like an ovveraction to me, even if you are opposed to it.
