Beck covers Velvet Underground & Nico (the whole album)

I think Round the Bend is the closest he came on that record to a direct Nick Drake homage. Hell, even the title sounds like it would be a Nick Drake song. But yea, definitely my favorite Beck album...in fact, I would dare say its a top 10 of the decade contender. -

He already did, its called Sea Change -
Do you people live in IL? I cant believe anyone feels sorry for the Blago's, Patti or otherwise. Its obvious her little pitty fest/PR stunt is working though. The only people I feel sorry for in this mess are the kids.

I just bought a book of William Eggleston's work. Damn I love this guy:

A reminder to any and all persons in the Chicago area tomorrow that GAS will be performing his first ever North American show (and its free for christsakes!). Not to be missed. Do yourself a favor and attend. This will be epic.

eh, vocoders and autotone can be interesting when done right. Black Moth Super Rainbow is an example.

Cool beans. I just saw Ghost a couple weeks ago and they completely blew me away. It boggles my mind they've been around since '84...

The only band worthy of having a full sized gong on stage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeSwal4jqyk It also goes without saying that Michio Kurihara is a living legend. I love the E-bow.....its unreal the way he can make a guitar sing.

I saw him a couple months ago..great show, although I think I prefer Bill Callahan in this type of genre.

Dude, this has always existed. The Banana Splits, anyone? I agree, but if you look around this is happening in all segments of society. Wheras we used to have major cultural touchstones that were pretty much universally shared by everyone, now (largely due to the internet, but also other factors) its very easy to just plug into communities that just share your own beliefs. Good or bad, I dont know. Its definitely segmenting society much much more. Music is a highly personal thing, so I say listen to what makes you happy. Most of the stuff I listen to isnt really that underground,

Complete bullshit. This tired argument gets trotted out all the time. There is more amazing music coming out every year than most people even have the time to listen to. The major labels are just upset because they no longer hold a monopoly on distribution. This guy sounds like every other old man sitting in their rockers claiming things were better back in "their day". Meanwhile, the kids are out at the clubs hearing the cutting edge stuff that will probably be in arenas 20 years from now. you need to get out more. that is all.

I wonder if they teach this in J-shcool
sureshot replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I just dont understand why anyone in todays age would spend 10's of thousands of dollars to go to J-school. There was a day when I thought that was what I wanted to do with my life. But the industry is for all intents and purposes, dead. I dont see how going into debt to attend Medill makes a lick of sense when in all likelihood there wont be a job when you get out anyway. -
