  1. There's really nothing special about Lacie drives that would cause them to crash more often. I've owned several for long periods of time (5+) years without incident. Lacie doesn't even build the drive mechanisms -- usually they are from one of the big mfrs like Hitachi, Western Digital, Quantum (my old Lacie's were Quantum), etc. And really, external drives aren't any less safe than internal drives, unless they get moved around or jostled a lot.

Any drive mechanism in any kind of enclosure can fail, and eventually will. Back up, back up, back up.

  2. The Nationals are set to announce Manny Acta as their new manager. I don't know a lot about the guy, but from what little I've heard he sounds like a good fit. Player reaction has been positive so far.

In other Nats rumors, Ryan Zimmerman seems to have the inside track on the NL ROY award.

  3. Notes John, "I am also hopeful that this partnership will help promote this song so more people will have a chance to hear it and get to think about its message of hope and tolerance. I write songs for people to hear them and am always glad to find ways to reach a broader audience."

Or make people so sick of it that they'll never buy another Mellencamp album ever. Which is about where I was halfway through the World Series.

  4. I strongly favored Studio 60 after each show's pilot, but after a few more weeks I've grown tired of the Aaron Sorkin rapid-fire-dialogue-mumbled-under-the-breath delivery, the we're-smarter-than-anyone-watching-this writing, and Studio 60's cringeworthy show-within-a-show sketches.

30 Rock doesn't aspire to be great, and as long as they limit Tracy Morgan's screentime, it's kind of funny. Alec Baldwin plays the sleazy, slightly deranged network exec to perfection (although Steven Weber is pretty good in that role too). And while I might rather sleep with Amanda Peet than Tina Fey, the way that Peet delivers every line with that stare is kind of unnerving. I kind of like Fey's sometimes-bumbling character.

  5. "All right then, I stand corrected. . . . So I will bigly, hugely admit that I was wrong, and I will apologize to Michael J. Fox, if I am wrong in characterizing his behavior on this commercial as an act."

Worst apology ever. Pats himself on the back, and then puts conditions on the apology. Bigly, hugely, douchebagly.

  6. With all due respect, how does the AP know why the players were chanting "Jose," or if that's even what they were saying in all the bedlam of the celebration? Sounds like a bit of creative license on the part of some embittered sportswriter.

  7. So it sounds like you bailed before you actually got taken, which is a good thing. Congrats on spotting the fake. I've heard that these bogus second chance offers are a growing problem. The few times I've gotten one, I've written back with a lowball offer, and then there's no response.

I doubt flooding this guy's PO box is going to have much effect. He can just close the box and open a new one anytime he likes, right?

  8. In terms of momentum, I wonder how much the rainouts in this series have kind of messed with the players' continuity. It already feels like the ALCS ended a long time ago and this one feels like it will just drag on forever.(I also wonder a bit about the Tigers' momentum while they sit around and wait all week)

Did Tuesday's rainout actually affect anything? Wasn't Wednesday supposed to be an off day?
