Have you considered being a dick?
A private eye, that is.
If a private eye is a private dick, and bank security is a bank dick, then is a city cop a public dick? Is someone working security for Microsoft a soft dick?

I just watched The Island on Tivo. It's about 45 minutes of semi-intriguing sci-fi, 15 minutes of Scarlett looking extremely hot, and 90 minutes of raging cartoon violence. It also has the most blatant product placements I've ever seen.

ARod gets blamed because of plays like this:
Been a while since I'd seen this, so I had to go back and view it. Youtube version here.

Firefox works nicely on my 4-yo Dell laptop, but seems to take forever to start up. What's up with that? Not that IE is so much faster, but I thought FF was supposed to be some kind of lean mean machine.

I Tivo'd last night's game -- sounds like it's not worth watching?

Her majesty's a pretty nice girl but she doesn't have a lot to say
Her majesty's a pretty nice girl but she changes from day to day

This is so high school.
Coming from Foley, I guess that's not surprising.

Not weird at all. Lots of stouts have chocolate flavors worked in.

It would be pretty satisfying to see the Tigers beat both New York teams in the postseason to win it all.

I knew he started the prizes because he felt bad about inventing dynamite, but I never heard the part about the obit before. Can you picture that happening today in our news-crazed, digg-happy society?

I ain't sayin'. The RIAA probably monitors this and other band sites.

Campaigning for peace and doing something to achieve it are two different things.
Are they?

Can I go ahead and say that the Lidle story is getting TOO much coverage? It's shocking yes, and sad. But it has every single news station completely tied up.
Yup, but probably no more than any other news story that manages to tie together celebrity, 9/11, sports, New York, Steinbrenner, flames, shock, smoking skyscrapers, etc. Got to feed the news monster all the time, ya know.

Sure sounds like you take a position on this argument using amateur psychology and your own childrearing theory.
Please explain your comment, because it really sounds to me like you're passing judgement with that unhappy smiley face, and maybe that's not what you meant.

How long before CNN leads with their suicide angle, I wonder.

I hate this argument, because it's so shrouded in red herrings of cruelty, child neglect, amateur psychology, childrearing theory, and everyone's own personal experiences from their childhood. And get people who've never raised kids into the discussion and it gets even weirder. It's almost impossible to discuss objectively.
As a parent of two young kids, my take is that it's a personal choice -- it's really going to be based on your parenting style and your kids' emotional makeup. Some kids just won't respond to anything else. As a parent, you only have so many tools in your belt (or bullets in your gun). Once you've gone past time-outs, groundings, and privileges removed, sometimes a spanking is all that's left.

Mr. T, my husband and my grandma share a birthday.
Just one birthday, or all of them?

Great article. Worth the read.
I agree S. Bee is not funny. Rob Corddry was probably my favorite "Senior Correspondent" after Colbert left. Remember when he went down on his knees in front of the security guard at that convention, saying "OK, I know the drill." Jason Jones is lately turning into the "do anything for the bit" guy.

He can't take a pay cut. The players union won't let him.
I hate the CBA.

I can think of about 29 teams who would love to have an A-Rod playing for them for $10mm/year or less. It would be kind of unprecedented for a 1-year-removed MVP who just hit 30+ HRs for a contender, but for sanity's sake, he should just take a big old pay cut and go hook up with a medium-market team who needs some power, and go be the uber-superstar in that market.
Seriously, what's the incentive to play in NY? The money? Does $20 million a year make you happier than $5 million a year? Is it the "winning tradition"? It surely can't be the front office.

I don't know which was sweeter, watching Kenny Rogers get stronger inning after inning, watching Leyland leave him in to strike out Abreu, or watching the vacant "I can't believe this is happening to us again" looks slowly descend over the Yankees' faces.
Go Bonderman!

Not sure if "bitch-slapped" is describing it quite right, but Varitek definitely gets the first blow. A-Rod comes right back though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WGtTGXdTsg
Tonight is definitely an "anything can happen" game -- the Cards have got Carpenter going, but everyone's going to be tired after flying at night into a time-zone change.
