  1. On the subject, I have noticed that a lot of the 'musical' toys we have for them all play (mostly) classical music...one is this badass cube thing that plays seperate instruments or all of them together in unison depending on which side you push. That said, so far, their favorite song is the 'A-B-C' song (traditional, not Jackson 5 version).

We have that cube too. The kids (7 and 2) both love it. And it's tough as nails.

  2. War of the Worlds (Spielberg, Cruise)

Not bad, it had some pretty tense moments, especially the 30 minutes or so that Cruise and his kids spend escaping from the city. It has very little in common with the Orson Wells radio play. I can't remember enough of the H.G. Wells novel to know if it's more faithful to that storyline -- I have a vague recollection that the Tim Robbins guy-in-basement subplot comes from the book -- anyone know?

For all the praise Dakota Fanning gets, I really did not like her in this movie. I think she overacted. The kid who played Cruise's son did a nice job, though.

  3. And don't forget the cities...

San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair) - Scott McKenzie

I Left My Heart in San Francisco - Tony Bennett

    L.A. Woman - The Doors

City of The Angels - Journey

When The Lights Go Down In The City - Journey

    Sausalito Summer Nights - Diesel

    Born in East L.A. - Cheech & Chong :D

  4. WWI: We were barely involved.

WWII: We got in late, lost a lot of men, would have lost probably 500,000 more if we didn't drop the bomb.

Korea: We didn't exactly clean up there.

Vietnam: Huge mistake. (Of course I hear Vietnam is a great place for vacations now...)

1st Iraq war: We ended a 50 year policy of containment, didn't really gain anything, got our troops sick with chemical weapons, and is probably the real reason 9/11 ever happened.

2nd Iraq war: Need I say more.

And if you think about it, this is 1984. We have been at war constantly.

You've painted a pretty bleak picture here. It's almost as easy to paint the rosier side that we all grew up with:

    WWI: We saved Europe.

WWII: We saved Europe again, and fought off Japanese aggressors at the same time.

Korea: We stopped a communist advance.

Vietnam: We stopped a communist advance again.

1st Iraq War: We liberated Kuwait in like 3 days.

    2nd Iraq War: Ummmmmmmm.....
