  1. Never divorced, but read your post and just wanted to say "best of luck." Can't be easy to go through, even if you know it's for the best in the long run. Good thing is, there's always someone on VC to make fun of you or your thoughts, or to just bs about all things wilco. so stick around.

    :yes

  2. Matt and Cryptique you both have it right. Talk about a clusterfuck

In my opinion I believe Israel is justified in their actions. I do feel for the innocent, this ALWAYS happens in war, but Lebanon has done nothing to rid themselves of Hezbollah, and they neither have the resources nor the political will to do so. The Islamic Fascists are hell bent on not only destroying Israel, but anyone else who does not subscribe to their beliefs. I don't doubt for a minute some whacko country over there wouldn't use NBC warfare if given the chance (nuclear, biological, chemical).

It certainly is a huge mess, but I believe the threat with terror states is real and needs to be stopped. You can argue that fighting them only makes them stronger, attracts more people to their cause, etc and it probably is true, but if left un-checked these organizations will stop at nothing to impose their will on the middle east and rest of the world. They know exactly what they are doing and they know that their terror works. The rest of the world is slowly being lulled into a sense of appeasement that if we just ignore them and don't fight they will go away. It ain't gonna happen.

Call me crazy but if you ask me all the trouble starts with Iran. Get them out of the picture and I think there will be much more stability in that part of the world.

Anyways you both have submitted some well written and well thought out opinions

  3. I've been writing lyrics, music and various unstable combinations of both for about 15-20 years now. Lately just haven't had the time needed to devote to it. I find writing lyrics alone or music alone to be fairly effortless, but am sorely lacking in the ability to merge the two. Which is what really makes me admire sometime like Jeff who can create such perfect lyric-lines over his melodies...

  4. I wonder if that producer that he was stalking/harrassing was wearing a halter and miniskirt as well.

    hmm.

right, because in the 10 years I've been practicing law, I've NEVER seen someone make false allegations in a pleading.

  5. I enjoyed his first album, went to see him in Dallas once. It was a pretty good show, but after awhile the songs just seemed duplicative.

I had put him away into the "hoped would be a new great thing but fizzled..." category. Any reason I should re-assess?

  6. I'm trying to put together a book(personal) of lyrics/tabs/notes for Tweedy-related songs, and was wondering what you guys have found to be a good blank slate for putting together tabs.

I have used word and wordperfect, with a courier font, etc., but I'm sure there's some freeware out there or something that makes it easier. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Neil

  7. Actually, you're both (kinda) right. There are two little 'C' licks in the guitar riff. The first one is a slide (hammer?) from the 1st fret D string to the 2nd fret. The second is a hammer on from the open D string to the 2nd fret.

I can transcribe the whole riff if there is a groundswell.

I was just going off Jeff's guitar from some live shows I've heard, where he uses the 1-2 hammer...

  8. Just googled "the blisters tweedy" (just googling "the blisters" returned some unsettling links) to get some more info, and the following link came up:

    NNDB

Click on the "unknown detox facility" link, and look at some of the "known for" entries. Some are fairly laugh-inducing...

  9. I usually don't talk about personal stuff, but I'm feeling especially grateful and chatty today. Been completely clean and sober for 3 1/2 years, and Jeff's music and personal background have been a big inspiration for me. I may not have "gotten" early Wilco at the time because I wasn't in the emotional place to get it. A big reason AGIB never gets old to me is that so many of those songs represent a recovery of one sort or another. Every show I attended in the 90s was a blur, but I've been clear and lucid for all these Wilco and Jeff solo shows and each one has been a moving, spiritual experience for me.

Sorry to anyone who's still reading this. I'm usually not this corny, I swear.

Congrats on the sobriety and transition. It really is a gift that wilco's music can be enjoyed in so many ways, by so many people, under so many different conditions. There really is something to it...

  10. Question to all:

What resource or resources do you all typically consult when determining the release date of many of these albums (e.g. JWH coming out around St. Peppers, etc.), as well as the participants (from session players to producers, engineers, etc). Are there some definitive sites with reliable information, or do you generally just cull the info from several different sources?

  11. Let's see,

    I'm 35.

Attorney (litigator), small firm. No ambulance chasing :)

    Married, no kids yet.

    Play guitar pretty much every other day (though all the electric stuff has been closeted until space (and marital harmony) provides;

Discovered Wilco from a friend of mine in Dallas (when I lived there) who was a huge Wilco fan. He took me to a show of theirs in Dallas, which blew me away, although I knew nothing of their music, so some of it was hard to digest on first listen.

First album bought was Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Couldn't dive into it at first. Then I bought Summerteeth, which slowly became the only thing I listened to for awhile. Then dove back into YHF, and the same thing happened with that record. After that I got all the Wilco releases. Saw them in Houston April 23, 2005, and again in Fayetteville, Arkansas (what a horrendous road trip that was) on March 18, 2006. Will attend any show within 300 mile radius (or further, if I can handle the flight using wife's airline benefits) from now on.

Recently discovered torrents, and have become disturbingly (to my loved ones) addicted to wilco live shows/dvds. In the past 2 months, I don't think I've listened to much of anything else, and I spend at least 2 nights a week out on the patio with the ipod, guitar, some refreshments, and a constant shuffle of all recordings Tweedy/Wilco. Since most of the tab sites I've seen for wilco are sorely lacking, I'm attempting to put together a book of my notations and scribblings for the songs, which will probably take years at the rate I'm going. (better have a decent capo if you want to play tweedy's parts...)

At this stage in my life there just isn't any other music that engages me as much as Wilco and Tweedy's solo shows. I have a collection of approx. 600 albums, and will always revert to my standbys like Bob, Beatles, Cowboy Junkies, and a range of others, but for now I just feel really close to the music of wilco. I think that the more of it I've learned by heart on the guitar, the more it speaks to me, and the more nuances I pick up...

Back just before the 2005 Houston show, I made my sister in law, then 15 I think, watch "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart." Then I took her to the show, and afterwards she was a fan for life, which is nice. Wife likes them alright, as do a few of my friends.

I'm about to head off to Colorado for a week of fly fishing and hanging with the fam, and plan on finding a cheap pawn shop guitar and playing wilco for all who will listen in the evenings while the sun goes down, etc.

    :cheers

  12. When I was a kid, my dad played the ballad of frankie lee and judas priest to me. Before playing it he described to me how this song had always puzzled him, and told me that if I ever figured it out to let him know. I've been listening to it now for about 25 years or so, and still enjoy it every single listen. as to "figuring it out," as with any Bob Dylan song, well, best of luck with a definitive and unassailable interpretation.

The rest of the album doesn't knock me over. I think it has its place in the catalogue, but like several have already mentioned in this thread, I wouldn't stumble over Highway 61, Freewheelin' or Blonde on Blonde to get to it.

  13. Jamail's within his rights on this one. Since objections are limited to "objection, leading," "objection, form" and "objection, nonresponsive," in Texas, and it is not clear whether the other attorney is representing a party or not.

That's a pretty good one. Depositions can be loads of fun, especially when the party being deposed is a total a-hole.

    thanks for the post.

  14. How much is is to make a mobile17 tone? Does it bill my phone directly? Do I need to hook it up via USB to get the tone? Thanks

All the ones I've done have been for free. If you want to pay a premium I think you can get the message sent quicker (so far after I've created a ring tone it's taken somewhere between 30-45 minutes for the message to hit my phone containing the ring tone). You don't have to hook anything up because they send the ring tone directly to your phone as a text message (at least in my case).

If you'll go to the site and enter all the info about your phone or PDA, it will probably tell you your options.
