  1. I think Van Horn is safe. I haven't seen anything in the Arkansas papers, or on message boards to suggest otherwise. The fans love the guy, and he played at UA.

I wasn't thinking his job was in jeopardy, but I thought his decisions on pitching order (especially considering the Saturday night game) might make get the local media and fans on his case.

  2. No. I didn't make it. You?

No. My wife and I used to love following the Cowboys in the post-season, but that was BC (Before Children).

Never been to Omaha though. (Knock on wood.) Can't go this year, as we have other vacation plans, but that would be one we'd take the kids to in the future if OSU can make it to the CWS.

Thankfully, CSTV was airing the Fayetteville regional (and streaming the broadcast online), so I got to watch it from home. Looked like a pretty wild atmosphere. I knew the Pokes could rake, but I'm glad we got our pitching to come around at the right time.

Is the heat on Van Horn over there?

  3. How about "One True Vine" and its Christian connotations?

    I was last in line

    For the one true vine

    The endless winding thread

    I was dead at first

    I had done my worst

    When you came to me

    Life had ceased

    I was lost and tired

You set me free from this mighty mighty fire

    Just in time to be

    My one true vine

And you still come to me

    And you comfort me

    You

  4. Hit List: Jeff Tweedy

    Wings, 'Greatest' (1978)

This collection includes hits like "Band on the Run" and "Silly Love Songs," as well as singles that hadn't been released on the band's other albums, like the James Bond theme song "Live and Let Die." A friend gave this to Mr. Tweedy after he'd been injured in a bicycle accident. "I listened to it repeatedly while recuperating," he says.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but ...

When I was a kid I had an 8-track of Wings' Greatest Hits ... but it wasn't Paul and the band playing, it was the kind of tape you'd buy off a convenience store rack. I can't recall the actual name, but it was one of those "Stars on 45"-type albums that featured cheesy cover songs.

Here is the rest of my 8-track collection at the time: Tom Petty (Damn the Torpedos), Cheap Trick (Dream Police) and the Cars (Candy-O). :rock Ah, good times.

  5. From "5 Things We Don't Want You to Miss", Reader's Digest, June 2007, p 30:

(CD) Sky Blue Sky, the latest release from Wilco, is a hopeful, homespun, melodic collection of tunes from the six-piece Chicago band led by songsmith Jeff Tweedy. [text over photo band]

Straight from Dad Rock to Grandma Rock.

Next month, Jeff contributes a hilarious story from the road to "Life in These United States."

  6. I was considering bringing my camera, but won't if it's likely to get crushed by the throngs of adoring fans.

Make sure the venue allows cameras first. Fortunately, the band DOES allow cameras ...

"wilco does allow non-flash still photography wherever it does not conflict with venue or other restrictions beyond our control. please be considerate of others. we do not allow video taping, and ask that you refrain from using your cel phones during concerts."

    Key words: NON-FLASH photography.

It might be a good idea to print the band's policies from the website to keep in your pocket in case the security guys give you a problem.

And though it might be tempting, note that they don't allow video recording ... although with digital cameras and phones with video capabilities so prevalent today, a ton of them still show up on YouTube. (Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching the clips of my favorite band and don't want to be the Fun Police, but I'm worried that this trend will put the kibosh on cameras of any kind at concerts.)

Again, turn off your flash (and any beeping or shutter sounds the camera might emit), try to be discreet and look through the viewfinder rather than using the LCD viewer on the back (this also saves major battery life) and have a great time!
