  1. I hope there is never anything like 9/11 again but it is quite a stretch to lay blame at Bush's feet for the radical Muslims that boarded the planes that morning.

Iraq was something different. Weren't there Democrats who also said it should be done?

  2. You don't think someone using their loss of life as a political chip would get stale? If I lost someone I loved I would find a Fox frenzy very stale.

They have, and will be investigating. That's just proper procedure. Several of these types of attacks happened during the Bush years and no one made much of a story about it.

They thought it was so stale they attended the hearings.

I don't think any diplomats were killed at mbassy attacks under Bush.

  3. I think the best way to prevent something like this from happening again is to find out exactly how it happened in the first place. Even Hillary said, "It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again".

I'm sure the families that lost a relative at the embassy don't think it's pretty stale...

  4. Thanks for sharing! (and nice poster).

Is this the same location from which originated that fantastic photo I remember of JT humbly waiting in the toilet queue. Classic.

No sir. That photo was taken at Edie's apartment. I took advantage of The one-hole restroom situation by asking JT about the recording of "Family Gardener".

What an incredible set list. I'm so happy for those of you who were fortunate enough to attend. Hopefully I'll meet some of you in the future! Keep the details coming.....

  5. The Daily Show did a brilliant job last week on how the political right doesn't really care about any of the other parts of the Bill of Rights; only the Second Amendment is sacred. Someone can find the clip, I don't have time.

I don't know why you are still surprised by any of this.  The dysfunction is so deep we don't see a resolution to it for many years or until the Republicans get control of the White House again, which could take a few years if Rand Paul and Ted Cruz decide they want to be President.  Or maybe Chris Christie will be elected and then something will happen. I don't know.  Despite all his desire to try and bring everyone to the table (and in spite of the chagrin of the left)  Obama is not going to be able to do it.  It sure isn't for lack of trying.

I don't even know why we still talk about this stuff here. It is pretty pointless when the political right blames two lone wolf terrorists on Obama, but refuses to admit that under Bush's watch nearly 3000 people died when the signs were clear that bin Laden was after us.  Civil and sensible discourse is no longer even possible at this point.

I like how you've come to the conclusion that these were lone wolf terrorists. You should call up the FBI and let them knw you've figured it all out. I think one thing we can asses so far from the bombings is a problem with the political refuge we give to some people.

Now, are you saying 9-11 was Bush's fault?

  6. Is that the person Jules was referring to?

Tweedling, you're right that the personal focus detracts from the real interest of the conversation.  I confess I know of no other way to respond to use of personal anecdote.

Argument A: Some people make good money and shouldn't complain about contributions to the safety net.

Response B: I know someone who makes X and it's not enough for their growing children and family needs.

At this point you can be polite and not say anything, because it would be somewhat personal.  Or you can kind of wonder the choices someone has made with six figures that have given them license to an emotional coup of a political argument through use of an individual anecdote.

In short, I apologize for sounding judgmental.  Nonetheless, if you don't want to personalize a conversation about policy, then don't use personal details to make an argument.

I was being goofy and trying to make a point with stupid humor. It's not easy to debate these issues without showing some feeling and passion. We all have our opinions and this should be a place where we can voice them. I don't think what you said is inflammatory, especially compared to some others I've read on here. It's all good fun. Not to mention, I stand to learn something all the time. :)
