  1. I put the memorial on today while doing some work around the house and it was sickening (the 3 or 4 who I paid attention to speak). The rhetoric and tone was abysmal. Very little of what I heard was about the great strides we've made in this country regarding race and peace within our culture. So negative. Anyone watch it? Thoughts...

  2. powned was a pjoke.  :stunned

The comparison that Obama drew between he and Trayvon was IMO careless and only exacerbated the racial tension that surrounded this entire case. Those were the comments he voluntarily interjected and that's why I "thumbed up" the link.

  3. I think Obamacare is more of a convenient scapegoat for employers to cut costs. According to the study (that UPS used) ACA will raise healthcare by 11% (the normal is 5%). But by cutting spouses UPS is prolly saving money on healthcare costs and something they planned to do regardless.

    Maybe

  4. Is the topic regarding election cycles starting earlier and earlier not an acceptable topic?

I enjoyed reading through the gun conversation. I learned quite a bit.

I understand what you're saying. It is crazy how just in the last 10 or 15 years I can sense that less time passes between elections before the debate and conversation starts up about the NEXT election.

  5. If you are burned out on Wilco than you should post on another board!

Pretty strong statement for only 20 something posts. ;) I'm sure you've been a fan for a long time, as many on this board have been but you'll have to realize one thing. This board is a group of people who share, state, ask, enlighten, fight, help and a bunch more I don't have time to list. They come here for a number of reasons and the most common is probably our love of Wilco. Burn out can happen with anything and when it happens you shouldn't let it stop you from being involved in something as BAD ASS as the this board or, more importantly, the people that make up this community.

Having said all that, Bjorn, you hit the nail on the head with the way I feel. That Maslow dude knew his stuff! Ha

  6. I find it charming and more than a little cool when the band I am seeing doesn't look like a group of homeless winos. I remember seeing Dr. Dog when they opened for Wilco and wondered if they smelled as bad as they looked.

Holy shit that is so funny. Saw them in Dallas 3 or 4 years ago and I wondered the same thing!

  7. I'm still trying to figure out what you're seeing on wikipedia that you're claiming is wrong.

Well shit! Maybe I was so shocked that Simmons was noted and Sneaky Pete wasn't that my mind inserted "solo" when they mentioned the Hawaiian guitar. Oh well, I've enjoyed my dive into that record. (and it bumped this thread) :thumbup

  8. And here's where I feel federal budget woes should be pinching the Pentagon first:

I mean, I'm all for putting Americans to work, but if we're going to spend a billion, why give Egypt another 200 tanks to rust in their lot with over a 1,000.  We could be building high-speed rail with that money.  Criminey.  Someone once said something about some kind of military industrial something-or-other complex:

I agree. I don't trust Egypt.....or most of the muslim countries.

Especially when I stick my dick in people's ears.

    :lol

  9. With the recent passing of George Duke I was looking into some of my albums and doing a little research. I looked up Waka/Jawaka and it has credited Jeff Simmons for the slide guitar part on, "It Just Might Be A One Shot Deal". It says he played a Hawaiian guitar.... I have always been under the impression that Sneaky Pete Kleinow was playing on that track with his pedal steel guitar.
Can anyone deny or confirm the Wikipedia credit. I'd hate to be wrong all these years.

Edit: Sorry, It took me 1 minute to go get the liner notes and Sneaky Pete is undoubtedly credited for the solo. I guess now I know where I got my facts. Wikipedia is wrong.
