  1. Q. What can you say about the reported Woody Guthrie project you’re working on?

    A. It actually won’t be a continuation of “Mermaid Avenue” [as has been reported]. It’s something that I started working on with [Woody’s daughter] Nora Guthrie that’s still in the works, and if everything goes well, it could be ready for release sometime next year.

  2. I recall reading in Kot's book that John was a guitar tech for Uncle Tupelo, and eventually was invited to join the band....not sure if they knew each other before that.

I believe they had crossed paths on tour when John was in another band (or performing with Laurie) and Uncle Tupelo were just starting out.

please let jim o'rourke be involved with this somehow

I'm hoping the only person they consider for the next one is O'Rourke. I also would like to see a Loose Fur album before a Wilco one. I don't know what O'Rourke's up to these days. He's supposed to be in Japan and was supposed to have put out a new solo record on Drag City, but haven't heard of it coming out yet.

  3. I've met and either spoken to at length or actually "hung out" with nearly everyone that's ever been in the band. Of the latest incarnation I've only not met Nels.

My best connections have been with Glenn, John, Pat, Jay Bennett and Jeff. I spent the most time with Jay. I've run into Jeff outside of Wilco things and had nice chats with him.

They're all good guys. None of them have ever been nothing short of kind.

  4. Really enjoyed the show! Got to take my son with me, bought him that shirt with the bird smokin' a joint on it. He's in college and...well no need to get into the fact how or why I know he knows what a joint is.

Anyways, we both enjoyed the show, we both love Wilco (much to the chagrin of his mother) and had a great time. A review is to come, but I am not a completist and also do not have a full setlist. I sort of lose myself to what's happening instead. That and I have a shit memory.

  5. Great show. Had a nice chat with the dude, the dude's friend (Mike?) and Tommy and his fiancee from VA Beach. Nice to see Jeff again, but realize now I should have gotten at the end of the line to maybe be able to have a quick conversation with him. Oh well...next time. Nice that he remembered me. And I finally got up the nerve to introduce myself to Sue properly! I have a problem introducing myself to women I have loads of respect for. I couldn't bring myself to say hi to Emmylou Harris once, Neko Case when i interviewed the new pornographers and have never said hi to Katie Tuten of the Hideout. I'm a dork.

  6. O'Rourke's in Japan? That's pretty cool, actually. I'm getting into his work and Loose Fur a lot lately. This year has been a big eye opening to me with regards to so-called "avant garde" music. I have to thank Tweedy for that. It was A Hawk and a Hacksaw that started it, Glenn's participation with Andrew Bird on Useless Creatures, and examining O'Rourke's music and then his, Jeff's and Glenn's collaboration on Loose Fur closer. I can't get enough of it right now and really hope the three of them get together again soon.
