we got a lovely sofa with a pull out bed out of the dumpster when I was living in STL - hauled it to Chicago - but it wouldn't fit up the stairs of our apartment building. So, we left it on the sidewalk. It was gone within an hour. Funny thing, a year later when we moving apartments again, we saw that same sofa back on the sidewalk - but totally torn up and a mess. Bummer There have been times in my life that most of my sustenance came from dumpsters - clothes, food, etc......one year, my friends and I even found a Christmas tree (a few days before Xmas) laid out in the trash. We hauled

aren't those laws in rules in place for the sake of public safety? I hardly consider being irritated by a ringing phone a public safety hazard. I, do however, condone the no cell phone use when driving laws - that is a matter of public safety.

Freddy Vs Jason was one of the worst movies ever made. I knew it would be bad - but it's not even good bad! Part III is my favorite too - I guess I like the Screech like dork character in the movie who has the masks and likes pranks......Also the biker gang? Beyond compare. I think there is also an old man who pulls out an eyeball and is like, "BEWARE! BEWARE!" classic. pretend that's a middle finger.

Like all technology, it can be a blessing and a curse. What is important is that each of us as individuals or as members of families/communities find a healthy balance that works for us. I love my iPod - there are days I just want to listen to music on the bus/train and tune out a bit. There are other days, I take the long walk through the city sans headphones and enjoy the conversations overheard, sounds of the city, etc......I am conscious to maintain a healthy balance. I like having a cell phone for the convenience it offers me and a sense (albeit maybe false) of safety. That said,

These days, Graham and I share a cell phone. We rarely use it. Since we also share a car this is nice, so I can call and get picked up at the end of the day (at the train station) without confusion.

I saw an elderly man (with some sort of disability) with a rolling walker the other day. It had a basket on the front and a transistor radio in it. He was walking very slowly amongst fast walking commuters, listening to the music pretty loud. It made me smile, I thought it was awesome.

amen. When I ride on the train, there are frequently annoying cell phone talkers - but I just tune it out and get on with my day. Can people be annoying and loud? Sure. Can I make an effort to personally practice polite cell phone usage? Yup. Let it go.
