Thanks for sharing with us. A few months ago, the night after my grandmother passed away I had already had tickets to see Mavis Staples and the Blind Boys of Alabama......I wasn't sure if I should go, but ended up going with a good friend of mine. It was a beautiful experience and gave me the opportunity to collect myself spiritually and emotionally before heading off to KC for the funeral. I am glad you were able to have that experience and that your family is able to come together and celebrate his life and find joy in the gifts he left behind.

don't forget the atrocities committed in Latin America with the direct approval, support and encouragement of the Reagan administration. WBEZ Worldview there was a great show today on Worldview that addressed some of these issues (Reagan and further back)...... I am planning on seeing these men speak at my university next week.

I saw the Pixies on the Doolittle tour - which was awesome. Also saw Fugazi on their first US tour....1988...... I have been to loads of shows, but few stand out as being enviable. I was glad to have seen Jawbox when they were still on Dischord and Chumawamba in a teeny tiny bar, long before that silly song they had on the radio. However, I am not sure if those are enviable - just ones I remember fondly.

You have 4 completely ADORABLE kids!! I feel my ovaries doing backflips now and again.....we hope to add to the clan someday. Though I think having a 13 year old actually causes your reproductive organs to freeze - it's like.....do I want to do this to myself AGAIN?? For now, I enjoy the role of doting "auntie" on my friends' kids.

you are a braver woman than I.

I have been reading Peace in Every Step I have taken to the practice of centering myself and breathing every time I hear bells. Being at Loyola (downtown) - near the Archdiocese of Chicago - I hear a lot of bells throughout my day. He mentions being present to the act of walking, picturing flowers blooming at your feet, where you step. I have to admit, that I love this. When I am walking at a steady, easy pace through the train station in the mornings, amongst frantic, hurried commuters, I just float through it all. I love it. I would like to read his book Anger In a book I am reading

hey Gary - I have actually been reading a lot lately about Buddhism in the context of therapy lately, for one of my classes.....I have really gained some wonderful insights. I have also been reading Thich Nhat Hanh for good measure.....his writings have really given me some significant personal direction.

ya know - in many ways you probably have a good number of people on the same page as you, in your positions - but then you take to name calling and dismiss people who come from a slightly different outlook, alienating them and the original issue. I am a Christian - I am also pretty far left when it comes to politics - In my worldview, dictated by my spiritual and humanitarian beliefs, I am on the same boat as you when it comes to a great many things. I can't prove that God exists - but I have a strong spiritual nature that calls me to action, love and compassion - even dissent. But, you

dude - it's what my budget allows for - I didn't say it was the best. I also can't make claims for Dominick's other than our own. Their oven must be special, because I haven't had one from any other location that is as good. It's just as good, if not better, than regular chain pizza places (Dominos, Pizza Hut, Papa John's). LIke I said, not as good as Giordano's, etc - but that's a once or twice a year treat in this house.

I read an interesting article recently speculating that Gore has no interest in running for president again because he has found a cause bigger than himself and he is finally doing work he feels really good about and wants to dedicate his life to. They speculate that if he ran for president again, he would be going back to a place that he doesn't want to be. I have tried to track this article back down - but can't remember where I found it. It was an interesting take. update - here it is

my favorite is deep dish and stuffed (ala Giordano's, Gino's East, JB Alberto's) but it's pricey and especially bad for you.....so, what I get most often is the $5 Dominick's Pizza - which is regular (and pretty tasty!) And....I do love me some thin crust Imo's Pizza in STL :drool

I hope you and Kris are having a fantastic birthday weekend!! Hope to see you sometime soon xoxo

watched this last night..... usually not my kind of thing, but I thought it was pretty great.
-
man, you eat a lot of fast food.
-
don't be too hard on fast food employees - they are forced to say stupid crap....script and all. When I was in college, I worked at an art supply store. Right before the holiday season, we got a regional manager who decided we would say this really ridiculous script when we answered the phone. My boss would answer the phone and say it really slow....pausing here and there.....and when a customer would start to ask a question he would continue with the script....it was hilarious. p.s...empathy is the key when going to a fast food joint.

much love to you and your family, sweetie. I am so sorry for your loss.

yup! That's the guy! -- and ya know....it's the freakin ALCS....game is pretty much in the bag. Be freakin glad. Booing you own players is lame. Come on. If it was about to be a blown save, I can kind of understand......he was sucking, but geez, it wasn't going to make a lick of difference. Poor fans.....at a pennant game.....it's cold. wah wah.
