  1. REALLY dig this tune. I love how the strummed guitars kick in halfway through each verse.

So does anyone know more about this tune? If it was recorded in 03, I assume this was around the AGIB days?

This is the only info I've seen on it beside what's on the back of the vinyl. Same songwriting credits as Theologians so probably written during AGIB. Anyone know any info about Chris Girard?

    Unlikely Japan (7-inch b-side)

Jeff - vocals / vocoded voice

Mikael - acoustic guitar, piano, synthesizers

    Glenn - drums

    Chris Girard - Bass

Written by Tweedy / Jorgensen / Girard

    Produced by Wilco

Recorded and Mixed by Mikael Jorgensen at Soma Electronic Music Studios, Chicago in 2003

  2. So I went down to the guitar shop, I looked around and told the guy that I pretty much knew nothing about home recording. He recommended the Presonus audiobox USB. It comes bundled with Cubase LE 4 ($150, right in the middle of my price range). Can anyone direct me to some how to videos. I think I'm WAY over my head, I keep getting error messages, and I'm following the instructions but I cannot record anything. I really know nothing about home recording and this interface looks like pro level stuff.

Hey, check this link out. It's a pdf that you can download for free that is basically one author's reworking of the Cubase manual. I've used Cubase for years but setting up is still full of complications. When I last had to reset it up, I followed this manual and it was amazing. It's easier to follow and has some more tips than the official manual. Very user friendly.

  3. All digital retailers now have the new 3-song Flaming Lips EP, appropriately titled, "SONGS FROM THE FUTURE ALBUM EMBRYONIC".

The songs will be on their album in the Fall. The 30-second itunes teaser for each song sounds promising. I may have to buy these. Here's the song titles:

    “Convinced of The Hex”

    “The Impulse”

    “Silver Trembling Hands”

It's awesome. Convinced of the hex has a very heavy Bitches Brew influence. This little taste leads me to believe this will be better than At War, which I still love.

  4. Do you mean this is Tweedy's "This Bird Has Flown?"

Also, I haven't posted in the a while. Is this really the intended look of the forum or is this the result of a server crash around the time of Jay's death that has not been rectified?

I believe this is an "upgrade"

  5. I am not smart enough to figure this out on my own - can someone tell me which part Mikael is playing and which part Pat is playing? I can't tell from watching the Letterman clip. Thanks fellow VCers.

It looks like Pat's playing electric piano and Mike is on organ. Good organ fills.

  6. Anyone got an idea of the chords in the middle section and outro? If not I'm gonna work on it but I don't wanna waste my time if it's already figured out.

I haven't got voicings that sound exactly right yet but the underlying chords sound like this to me (all relative to capo, of course):

    Em Em(maj7) Em7 A7 Cmaj7 Am7 Em Em(maj7) Em7 A7

The outro is the same but shorter:

    Em Em(maj7) Em7 A7

I forget the last chord but I'm assuming it ends on Em?

  7. Mets made a really bad trade.

    Church for franceour?

    Franceour is terrible.

For realz. I'm surprised the Braves got anyone with a pulse for him. He'd probably be released if they couldn't find a new home for him soon.

    Biil Simmons:

I want to sell my HD-DVD player and Six Flags stock to Omar Minaya. Does anyone have a contact for him?
  8. Second interlude's chords are just the Em D C B twice.

The verse that's a little different from the others goes something like this:

    Am
    Underneath the ocean floor
    D
A part of who we are don't explore
    G G/F# G/F C
    I adore
       Cm G C Em
    The meaninglessness of the this
    Cm G
    We can't express

Edit: Chords relative to capo 5.

  9. The interlude (at least the first one) sounds something like

    Em D C B

    Am F Dmin G

The G is just a passing chord back into Am. Hope that makes sense. For the timing listen to the record.

Edit: These are all relative to capo 5

  10. This is how I've been playing the intro and beginning of verses:

    Capo 5

    Amin
    -----------------
    -1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-
    -2-2-2-0-4-4-4-0-
    -2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2- 2x
    -0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-
    -----------------

    D
    -----------------
    -1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-
    -2-2-2-0-4-4-4-0-
    -0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0- 2x
    -0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-
    -----------------

  11. The vinyl and CD versions sound a lot better than the downloaded version I had, I will say that. I almost feel the one I got was mixed differently than the final version.

    I agree with this statement.
