Shit. Not sure how I missed that one. The Roots' Masters of War is definitely top three for me. Amazing performance.
and they throw in the star spangled banner & machine gun. so awesome

sounds awesome!

Calvino, you don't like Horsehead? I thought that was one of the better songs on the album --- it's at least got a kickass groove going.
I did find a way to make the album more enjoyable. Take out "Heavy", "Diamond Ring", and "Then She Said My Name", and put in "When The Night Comes Falling From The Sky", "Grows A Rose", and the B-side version of "Peace Anyway". It still sounds a bit overproduced and glittery, but at least the worst of Chris's vocal indulgences (i.e. Heavy) are gone.
the lyrics annoy me on horsehead. the guitar is awesome though.
i love diamond ring :-\ sappy but i like it. i also like then she said my name. agree on heavy.
-
i generally feel the way matt does.
if you haven't heard/seen it, track down the roots' cover of masters of war. i think it's become my fave dylan cover ever. it's so bizarre
-
ha, i have that & had no idea 'sad eyed lady' was on there. odd choice. i love 'love is four letter word'.
-
damn near any dylan song jerry garcia sang. especially when in the jerry garcia band.
-
I think Mark Lanegan could do a good job covering "Funky Cold Medina".
This is sounding pretty good.
that cover of no place to fall is gorgeous. i love the mark/isobel albums.
-
i don't like heavy either.
i used welcome to the goodtimes during our wedding. still can't believe i talked my wife into having htat played after we said our vows/walked down the aisle. also had diamond ring on our wedding cd (cheesy i know, but i fit 2 crowes songs on that cd!)
virtue and vice is a kick ass song.
-
said it on here a lot but i love by your side. i always have. there are only a few songs i dislike (horsehead though the guitar is great, forgetting the other ones)

crowebase has info on Band.
as far as the shows go, i thought they were supposed to be doing these mammoth shows with 1.5 hour acoustic sets and 2 hour electric sets.
depends on the venue actually. first night in milwaukee was but the last 2 were not.

setlist:
crowesbase says 120 minutes. weird
ONE MIRROR TOO MANY
SOUL SINGING
MY MORNING SONG -> STARE IT COLD -> MY MORNING SONG
HOW MUCH FOR YOUR WINGS?
BRING ON BRING ON
WISER TIME

JEALOUS AGAIN
THICK N THIN
TWICE AS HARD

BEEN A LONG TIME (WAITING ON LOVE)
REMEDY
my morning song/stare it cold was awesome/weird. i think that setlist is quite awesome.
-
great show tonight but very short (90 min). lots of old songs. the keyboard player (forget his name) seems to have gotten better. he did a great job on descending.
-
nice. i'm going to see them tonight. thinking about picking up the vinyl if it's for sale.

robert pollard - from a compound eye
i hate/love when i sleep on a band/someone for so long & then fall madly in love.

great idea for a mix tape!

Thanks for the recommendation. I gave Disc One a couple of spins last night and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It definitely has that Everly's/Jayhawks/Bakersfield thang going on. Interesting how this predates Tomorrow The Green Grass by a couple of years.
I'm not a huge jayhawks fan but i already like this more than any jayhawks album i've ever heard. thought this last night while listening & heard a jayhawks vibe.
-
los lobos - tin can rust. damn good
-
finally got around to the bonus disc. gah! just as good. 'paper & a promise' kicks so much ass
-
fuck
yes.
so good. i've listened to think on it a lot since sunday.
-
f'ing amazing
yes it is. i know it's a reissue but can it be up for record of the year? so damn good.
-
nope. no mention of that. here's the vid:
-
oh yeah, maybe steve, not sven.
-
had a long drive to fully digest this. so freakin' awesome. my morning song is fantastic. kinda wish miracle to me would've been on here too.
i saw an interview with chris where he talks about how they picked the song (he, sven & rich wrote their choices down, came together. they 80% of the same songs. which is weird)

imo, their best & one of my fave albums.
