  1. Anyone else looking forward to this collection of rarities. Granted I have many of these songs already, but boy I hope my 3 disc vinyl copy is awaiting me tonight at home. Hearing outtakes and rare tracks from all stages of his career sounds about as good as it gets.

Do you know if the vinyl set allows you to download mp3s of the songs like most vinyl editions of his albums?

  2. Dylan and Macca to collaborate? From the Guardian today:

"Bob Dylan has celebrated his latest album going to No 1 on both sides of the Atlantic by hinting that his next project could be a collaboration with Paul McCartney.

Dylan's 33rd studio album, Together Through Life, is reported to have sold 125,000 copies in its first week in America. But instead of dwelling on his chart victory, the iconic singer-songwriter has been busy telling Rolling Stone magazine that he would definitely consider working with McCartney.

"That would be exciting, to do something with Paul," Dylan said. "But, you know, your paths have to cross for something like that to make sense." McCartney's spokesman responded by saying: "I should think he would be very interested in hearing about it. As you can imagine, it would be a pretty major thing if it went ahead."

The success of Together Through Life follows Dylan's 2006 album, Modern Times, which also went to No 1 in the US. Of Dylan's extensive back catalogue, only five albums have made it to the top of the Billboard chart. Dylan fairs slightly better this side of the pond with seven, including The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and Bringing It All Back Home, although his last UK No 1, New Morning, was in 1970.

His current chart success includes No 1 positions in Austria, Denmark, Holland, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, New Zealand, Austria and Ireland.

It is a commercial renaissance for Dylan who, with the exception of Modern Times, hasn't scored a No 1 album in the US since 1976's Desire. Together Through Life is out on Columbia."

It would certainly be interesting, that's for sure.

  3. Anyone have any idea when tickets may go on sale for this? I was supposed to go to the Brixton Academy show last time around before it was cancelled, so please excuse my exuberance....

According to an e-mail update I recieved from Gigantic, tickets go on sale at 10am on Monday.

  4. Ryan is ripping people off. You can find live versions of it out there.

Is it Ryan, or is it Lost Highway? I mean, was this EP arranged by Ryan himself or is this a last-ditch attempt by LH to rake in some cash on Ryan's tunes? Because I really can't see Ryan doing something like this...

  5. It's undeniably worse at Ryan's concerts, but that's got a lot to do with him bringing it upon himself.

The first time I saw him was a few years ago in Vancouver; at one point, between songs, when an audience member yelled "Freebird!", Ryan walked to the edge of the stage and threatened to fight the guy. If I remember correctly, his exact words were: "I can get a lawyer -- you can't get a new face."

This particular show also ended with security on stage trying to get him (Ryan) down off a speaker stack during a drunken, lyric-less, ten-minute rendition of "I See Monsters," and he cancelled the rest of his tour the next day.

Rock & Roll, no? I too would want to mangle someone's face if they were screaming freebird at me whilst I was on stage trying to perform..

  6. I'm enjoying the hell out of the new album. Pretty solid effort to my ears. Also don't understand all the haterade around Magick.

Yea, so am I. This album has really grown on me over the past few weeks. To be honest, there isn't a track on this album I would skip. To me, Magick is a very similar track to Halloween Head on Easy Tiger. Neither are trying to be anything serious, rather laid-back, fun tunes!

Having heard a lot of the new album in a live setting in Dublin really helped my appreciation for Cardinology. The songs take on a whole new life in a live setting (notably Cobwebs, Born Into a Light, Crossed Out Name and Evergreen). I can't name very many, if any bands, that are capable of replicating such a unique live sound in the studio. Not even the GD were able to...but then again, would you want them to?

  7. I think it's easier to "give 'em a break" when you've had the opportunity to see them recently. Not long ago someone said that just when she thinks she's kind of "over it," she sees Wilco live and is reminded why she loves the band so much. So imagine you've been Wilco-less for 3 yrs, they're finally coming back, you've got your tickets, and then the gig is cancelled with less than two weeks notice. Add to that "scheduling conflicts" and it's easy to see how one could feel bitter. Of course no one *wants* anyone to be sick, but when a show's already been scheduled for months, it's hard to understand what "scheduling conflicts" means. It's a heartbreaker all around. I'm sure the band had to do it for whatever reasons, but they also have to expect some really, really sad (and angry) fans. I hope they make it right for all of you! :cheers I had tix for the Duluth show and couldn't make the rescheduled date, but I know it's different because they make many appearances in the US and my region. ALL the UK shows were cancelled.

And am I the only relieved it wasn't for an appearance on SNL?

I think that this is an excellent post that describes how many of us are feeling. Very well said!

It would be one thing if it was down to a band members' illness, but 'scheduling conflicts'?!?! These dates have been scheduled for months, and to call it off less than two weeks and give a poor excuse such as scheduling conflicts is just not acceptable...by any band, Wilco or not. We aren't even talking about a date or two, but all the tour dates throughout the country. :ohwell

  8. It is really good. Does your copy have her cover of Springsteen's "I'm on Fire?"

yea, i think it is a very well done cover. very unique.

also, 'i'm on fire' is one of my favourite springsteen tunes, but i think her take on it is fantastic.

  9. ...what a fantastic album. if you haven't heard it already, i highly suggest giving it a listen.

i would certainly rank this in my top 10 of this year thus far. :thumbup

my apologies if this album has been discussed in another thread. a search showed nothing.

  10. what do people think of the various demos/bootlegs floating around? Where to start there? I downloaded them from some kind person who posted them here and was saving them for a rainy day. Well, it rained yesterday, and I put on the Destroyer Sessions and the first song just about knocked me flat. Unbelievable.

do you have The Suicide Handbook and/or Exile on Franklin Street?

i would highly reccommend giving those two a listen for starters.

edit: i'm not sure if i am way behind on this, but i was reading the liner notes for heartbreaker earlier today and noticed pat sansone played they keys on 'oh my sweet carolina'. very rock & roll! i can't believe i missed that all these years.

  11. Well, I have had a few weeks to listen to Ryan Adams. My first purchase was Heartbreaker. I listened to the first song and I was like "this rocks!", but then the songs started to really mellow out and it pretty much does that for the rest of the album. Don't get me wrong, every song is very good and has a lot of meaning and emotion, but I was expecting something a little more upbeat.. But hey, there's nothing wrong with mellow stuff... I knew he had to have some more rocking stuff out there, so I went ahead and got "Easy Tiger"... It's not all exactly "rocking", but man I love this record so far!.. I haven't listened to it enough to really let it completely soak in, but this is the Ryan Adams that I was hoping for..

if you are looking for something a little more 'rocking' i would suggest Cold Roses. argueably one his best albums, though JCN would get my vote i reckon. :thumbup

anyway, glad to hear you are digging Heartbreaker and ET!
