  1. oof.

of all the ones to pick as his top 2?

    especially 29? :unsure

29 is a highly underrated album in my opinion. 'nightbirds', 'blue sky blues', 'carolina rain' and 'starlite diner' are all great tunes! perhaps they could have been better if they were fleshed out with the cardinals, but i agree with analogman, his darkest music is some of my favourite. and yes analogman, ryan recently stated that love is hell is the best music he has ever written.

having said that, despite being very hard pressed to pick a favourite, cold roses and jacksonville city nights are contenders for my favourite ryan albums :thumbup

  2. Well, as a big Ryan Adams fan, I suppose that expectations were for another good album - and I'm not disappointed at all.

'Goodnight Rose' has got to be one of his stronger tracks, and apart from 'Magnolia Mountain', I can't think of a better start to any of his albums. Probably the only song that doesn't seem to click is 'Off Broadway', but I've never really been too big a fan of the track.

I don't get the complete distaste I've seen for 'Two' and 'Halloweenhead'. 'Two' may not sound like the most fantastic track here, but neither did 'Dear John' on Jacksonville City Nights, but that's been turned into one of the best songs he plays live. 'Halloweenhead' is just a fun track - nothing too earth-shattering, just fun.

:thumbup dear john blew my mind this past week at the bbc show and at koko. it has fastly become perhaps my favourite ryan tune to hear live.

all the new tracks sound incredible live. they translate so well, especially with the current acoustic set-up the cardinals had going on for this short tour. if you haven't already, i suggest you get hold of the kingston show for a taster of the new material in a live setting. can't wait for the koko show to appear :dancing

  3. not sure if im pointing out a site that many people already know about, but www.fabchannel.com have a tonne of live concerts that you can stream instantaniously. this is what they are about:

they are all about the music. i just watched bright eyes, solomon burke, andrew bird, josh ritter, arcade fire and low!! :dancing just click on concerts and scan the massive list of artists they have. enjoy! :thumbup

  4. listen to the live version of halloween head from keswick and you will get it. great song. :thumbup

where would one be able to obtain this show? im not seeing it on bt.etree or the trader's den... :hmm

  5. damn! I'm really groovin to this studio version!! I like it better than the live versions, for sure

indeed! this translated incredibly well in the studio imo. much more than i would have expected. dissapointing this didn't make the album...it sure beats 'what light'.

ohh well, im certainly not complaining. am chuffed they released this. as always, cheers wilco! :thumbup

right, im off to catch the boys on jools holland.

  6. I quite like "Two" and "Everybody Knows" so far. "Halloween Head" I could see being better in the context of the whole album. I do, though, like the part where he shouts "guitar solo!", followed appropriately enough by a solo. I laughed at that.

i actually enjoy halloween head more than two and everybody knows, it's catchy!

  7. hey all, my apologies if this has been discussed somewhere but was unable to find anything doing a search...

i remember hearing a few months back that chan was back in the studio with the newly formed dirty delta blues band but haven't heard anything since.

has anyone heard of anything going on in the studio/potential release dates?

just picked up a pair of tickets to see her in brooklyn with built to spill in july :dancing am eager to hear how the DDBB sound...

    anyway, cheers all!

  8. I think the show has been pretty rubbish for a good few years now. They do have a couple of good acts on per season, but 90% of it is no better than the stuff you see on T4 on a sunday morning. Also, when they do have good bands/artists on, in the past they used to put on great performances, now they just seem to put on pretty average ones. The vibe of the show is gone, is what I'm trying to say.

i agree, for the most part. the last performer i made a point of tuning in for was cat power, and i was impressed (then again, it would take alot for me to not be :D).

what do you think about sessions at abbey road? i think it would be brilliant if the show had more consistency in terms of good artists.

will definately be watching for wilco though!

  9. Sounds pretty good. I really like Ryan Adams. It didn't sound too Sheryl Crow-ish, definately more of Ryan than her IMO. Thanks for this :thumbup

honestly, i didn't really hear much from her at all. just some backing harmonies here and there. not as good as goodnight rose (the only other track off this album i have heard..which is incredible on so many levels), but not bad.

ohh, and cheers for the link :D

  10. i can see why everyone is saying 'You Forgot It In People'...it is definately a good place to start.

i may be in the minority, but i like some or the more instrumental albums the most. 'Bee Hives' is my favourite BSS album...and Feist's version of Lover's Spit is above and beyond the version on YFIIP :thumbup

  11. Froggie!!!!!!

wow, jeff just spent a good 30 seconds talking about froggie!!!!!!

'some people have nothing better to do than follow around a rock band.....like froggie. i know that he calls himself froggie on the internet..'

rock on froggie, rock on!! :thumbup :dancing :)

  12. Man I wish. I think the closest you'll get to Orphans on vinyl is the 7" they gave away with copies sold in Europe. That's how I got it anyway, and the 7" has a track not on the box, "Crazy About My Baby."

will definately be looking out for this on my weekly trip to the local camden record store!
