  1. There's a story in the NY Times about Chan today: 9 Lives and Counting: Cat Power Sobers Up.

Rich, you'll do well whichever show you choose, but as everyone has noted, you have to leave all your expectations at the door of any Cat Power gig. Both women are mesmerizing in their own ways; it really comes down to your personal tastes. :cheers

well, i guess that article explains the reasoning behind the stage habits. i was aware that things were pretty bad at one point, but i had no idea they were that bad :hmm

glad to hear she is recovering and is gaining some confidence on stage...am really looking forward to this gig in november now!

  2. eskimofriends is listing the tracklist as follows:

    1. 9 Crimes

    2. The Animals Were Gone

    3. Elephant

    4. Rootless Tree

    5. Dogs

    6. Coconut Skins

    7. Me, My Yoke And I

    8. Grey Room

    9. Accidental Babies

    10. Sleep Don't Weep

as mentioned above, '9 crimes' will be the single to be released on november 20th.

  3. I hear-tell that it's an act.

my sister and her boyfriend have been big fans of cat power for quite some time and have seen her extensively, and from what i have heard from them, and others, is that she lacked any self-confidence on stage until very recently. i think that explains why in the past she has come across as all over the place on stage and why now she can still sometimes act this way live. then again, this is not fact, so you could also be right...just what i heard.

  4. That seems to be a pretty common phenomenon.

You have got BOTH though right? I'm not certain of the exact terminology, but one is the 'demos' and one is the 'engineers demos'. Alot of overlap. The 'demos' has the better version of Venus Stopped The Train, but the 'Engineers demos' wins for me because of the version of Reservations and Let Me Come Home (probably my favourite JT vocal).

Just in case - you probably knew that, but wouldn't want you to miss out.

yea i think i just have the 'demos'....this copy has venus stopped the train but no version of let me come home so i am guessing it isn't the engineers demos. if i remember correctly i picked up the demos off bt.etree. will have to keep an eye out for the engineers demos. cheers for the heads up!

  5. Thanks for the offer, but I will decline right now - just feeling a bit lazy to organise postage etc. Maybe I can take you up on that sometime in the future, or if you need some the the small number of Wilco/JT solo shows I have and want to do a straight swap (which is assuming that you don't bit-torrent etc. like me, otherwise you'll probably have enough shows to be getting on with). :cheers

BTW welcome to VC too - haven't noticed you as one of the small gang of Brit regulars before.

EDIT - also the YHF Engineers Demos which are essential.

well mate, more than happy to just send you a copy, not a hassle at all. only if you want a copy that is. yea i have been collecting shows for a while, through torrent, so i have built up a collection, but would love to do a trade anytime if you are interested. just let me know and i can send you my show list. cheers for the welcome, i have noticed a few brits here, thats why i posted the info above...just incase people were not aware of the gigs :)

just picked up the YHF demos.....bloody fantastic! i have been listening to them more than YHF recently.

  6. I thought about Cat Power as I love The Greatest so much, but I'm going to the Roundhouse to see Calexico within a few days of it, and I was put off a bit by some of the things I'd heard about flaky performances. I saw a great YouTube of her on a US TV show though. I might have a last minute change of mind.

as i just mentioned in the previous post, i just attained a copy of her set at bonnaroo with the MRB and it is a really solid set...great sound quality too. if you are interested, i am more than happy to B&P you a copy of it so you can get a listen of how she is sounding as of late. :thumbup

  7. I'd seen that... though I'm not a fan of Neko Case...

    do you like cat power?

i think i am going to keep with my cat power tickets mainly because i recently recieved a copy of her set at bonnaroo this year with the MRB and it is pretty solid...i am liking it alot. not to say i don't like neko case, i like her alot also but just the fact that the gig is at koko puts me off. that venue really winds me up and i end up feeling annoyed throughout most of a gig there. i am also anxious to hear how most of 'the greatest' translates live with the MRB...i really dig that album. i really do wish i could see both though.

  8. Just went to book tickets for Neko Case & M-Ward at Koko on November 1st, but just realised Cat Power & The Memphis Rhythm Band are playing the Roundhouse the same night :hmm

Was really hoping to catch Neko Case while she was doing her small tour over here but i don't think i can miss the opportunity to see Cat Power, especially with the MRB as her backing band for the night. I also can't stand Koko at all, however, i have heard great things about the Roundhouse. Still, it is a shame they are scheduled on the same night....would have been nice to see both. Are any other Brits going to be attending either of these shows? Both are going to be wicked :rock

  9. I became a big wilco fan back in 01/02 when YHF came out, but BTs of Jeff's acoustic shows are what pushed me over the edge. The first time I heard Mountain Bed solo acoustic (didnt yet know MA) was an (almost) religious experience. I had never heard anything so beautiful, so longing, so perfect in every way.

To see that it is not on here bums me out, but even with the glaring omission (I really think its his best solo acoustic song), I will be like a kid in a candy store on Oct 24. Fantastic news. Really cant wait.

i like your avatar! :lol...keith hernandez.

  10. 1.Beck-It's All In Your Mind

2.Yo La Tengo-Tears Are In Your Eyes

    3.The Clientele-Monday's Rain

4.Flaming Lips-Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell

    5.Wilco-HummingBird

    6.Mercury Rev-Moving On

    7.Amiee Mann-Wise Up

    8.Badly Drawn Boy-The Shinning

    9.Broken Social Scene-Lover's Spit

    10.Bob Dylan-Most Of The Time

Which version...with the guy or the girl singing lead vocals? The take with the female singing is infinately better. I think it may have been a b-side track. Other tunes that help me in a situation such as yours are:

    Ryan Adams - The Shadowlands

    Radiohead - True Love Waits

Bob Dylan - Not Dark Yet

Josh Ritter - One More Mouth & Baby Thats Not All

Wilco - Misunderstood, Someone Else's Song & The Lonely 1 (Being There versions)

    hope it helps mate! :hmm

  11. Roger Moore blows. Never should have been cast as Bond.

    My Bond ranking:

    1. Connery

    2. Dalton (criminally underrated)

    3. Brosnan (liked him, even though I'd always hated him before)

    4. Lazenby

    5. Moore

:o Wow that is a first! i think The Spy Who Loved Me, Live and Let Die, Octopussy, Moonraker, Man With the Golden Gun are some of the best bond films produced....but everyone has their own opinion. However, I do agree that Dalton is extremely underrated. He gave Bond a very serious/dark side that I thought worked very well, especially in License to Kill :thumbup

  12. I'm a diehard James Bond (I have copies of BOTH previous casino royale movies) and I'm definitely looking forward to Daniel Craig as 007, and the new take on it. I was about to hand in my fan card at the end of the last movie, even though overall I do like Pierce.

If only Peter Lorre was still around to be the bad guy..

I too am a diehard James Bond fan and I was so dissapointed that Pierce's opportunity as being a legendary bond was ruined by such shameful script writing. Goldeneye is definately in my top 3 bond films, however, everything post-Goldeneye has been a disaster.

I am also looking forward to Daniel Craigs take on 007....I also am looking forward to a more 'stipped down', less action-crazed script. I heard that they are sticking tightly to the book and avoiding the big action packed scenes. No Q or MoneyPenny though :hmm

Sidenote, I just got finished watching The Spy Who Loves Me special edition....does Bond get any better than this? Roger owns the role, i must say! (no offense Connery fans) :D

  13. Wow there have been some great responses so far...especially Heard it Through the Grapevine, Desolation Row, Thin Blue Flame & Heroin.

    However, there is also:

Jessica & Mountain Jam (though not technically a song, rather a jam) - Allman Brothers Band

    Isn't It A Pitty - George Harrison

Help on the Way/Slipknot! - Grateful Dead (or any live dead for that matter!)

Since I've Been Loving You & When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin

    Freddie Freeloader - Miles Davies

Any track from Bitches Brew - Miles Davies

Cortez the Killer - Neil Young

    Dogs - Pink Floyd

Push on 'Till the Day - Trey Anastasio

    Close Calls:

Who Are You? - The Who (6:21)

Tiny Dancer - Elton John (6:17)

    :rock
