i dont think Newport will be the next boot series, just a normal release.
as for the 3cd comp above, some albums arent even represented.. one (+ a single) tune from H61, no Visions of johanna... hmmm
...or desolation row, love minus zero/no limit, she belongs to me, it's alright ma, john wesley harding, girl from the north country to name a few.
this set is lame.

where is my london date at?

It's minority opinion, but my favorite is Cold Roses.
i'm with you on this. CR & JCN happen to be my two favourite ryan albums, very closely followed by Heartbreaker.
i'm all about the cardinals, what a stellar backing band. i sure hope what ryan has been saying lately about officially becoming a cardinal stands true.

you can listen to clips of the new album at his webiste: http://www.joshritter.com/historical/
i am looking forward to this one!

Plenty of love for Barrett. I don't think any band will ever pull off anything like "Astronomy Domine" ever again in the history of rock n' roll. His contributions made Pink Floyd's diverse discography even more awesome; it's so cool that one band could have not one, but two visionary guitarists and songwriters.
But if Barrett remained the lead man, I don't think "Meddle" or "Dark Side" could have ever happened.
...or wish you were here for that matter, and i think many of the more hardcore floyd fans would argue that WYWH was floyd's best work (post-barrett), not dark side.

Dear MusicToday,
I hate you.
Love,

still haven't recieved your package?

I thought it was hilarious when Ringo said that Paul is "still the most melodic bass player on the planet." And King goes, "Well, what do you mean by that?"
Starr responds with, "It means he's melodic!"
i hope this shows up on youtube at some point, as i dont get CNN over here.

Bryce & Glenn are friends and the National attended Wilco's London show recently
now that's rock & roll. it would have been nice to run into one of them there so i could express my love for 'boxer'. i wonder if any members of wilco were at the national's gig at the astoria the following night? that sure was a rocking show!
-
Very good article, in regards to similarities between The National and Wilco

good read, cheers for the link! i had no idea that wilco has had such an influence on the national.

Might give me a better chance of increasing the Archive Fund...
my thoughts exactly. that and the RA box set that is due for release at the end of this year is also going to put a healthy dent in my (lack of) funds.

After what Ryan pulled the last time he was in NYC (storming off the stage for the closing night of a 3 night run at Town Hall an hour before curfew), I promised myself that I wouldn't get sucked in again. But, these new songs, his voice, this band, the reviews of the current tour from folks on here, etc. Hiro Ballroom??
It is mind-boggling to me that I have tix to Wilco at Warsaw (basically the one show any NYC fan could have asked for) and I am considering trying to get tickets to see Ryan Adams. Unf*ckingbelieveable.
i feel for you mate, i really do. i have seen both wilco and ryan on their current tours (shepherds bush and bbc/koko respectively) and both were perhaps the best live musical experiences i have attended to date. however, the intimate/acoustic set-up with the cardinals is defnately a once in a lifetime experience. ryan has never sounded better and the song selection the cardinals are currently playing with this set-up is mind bending. the new songs are sounding great acoustic and an emotionally charged dear john/carolina rain/ blue hotel/goodnight hollywood boulevard is enough to make a man drool!
it's an almost impossible choice. why not leave it to the gods of fate...do you have a magic eight ball?!?
-
yea, i feel bad for whoever is going to have to make that choice between seeing wilco or ryan on the release date of ET in a venue that small!
mind you, tickets for that gig are going to be close to impossible to obtain...
-
holy shit
EDIT: is that the same night as wilco at warsaw???
unfortunatly, yes i think it is.

Larry King to reunite living 'Beatles' with bandmates' widows
From our ANI Correspondent
Washington, June 21: For the first time since the 'Beatles' split Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, and Olivia Harrison will be interviewed together on Larry King Live next Tuesday.
Cirque du Soleil founder and CEO Guy Laliberte, whose Love show at The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas is celebrating its one-year anniversary, will also join them on the sets. Laliberte show is known for featuring digitally remixed recordings of the Beatles' music.
Since the interview will bring McCartney and Ono together, television columnists believe that it will be a must-watch telecast.
"McCartney and Ono together? That's a must-see, isn't it?" Contactmusic quoted Orlando Sentinel TV columnist Hal Boedeker as commenting about the interview.
that sure will be interesting! i wonder what the purpose behind this is?!?

I am anticipating the return of "Red-Eyed and Blue" > "I Got You". I am so hoping for it in Duluth.
"Outtasite" would be awesome, too. "Being There" is being phased out for the most part, but that's OK, I guess.
i don't understand why the album has been so neglected of late

yes.
there's only 2-3 songs i don't love on Easy Tiger, whereas Cold Roses has 5-6 songs i don't totally love. if Cold Roses was cut to 12-13 songs, it'd easily be his best post Heartbreaker, that's for sure.
cut out
Meadowlake Street
Beautiful Sorta
Cherry Lane
Friends
Rosebud
Blossom
and it'd be a killer single disc album
not that big of a fan of the slower songs on Cold Roses for the most part. they're really dull/sappy songs for me. i love Ryan's solo/slow stuff, but really those ones in particular.
i see where you are coming from, and many people have given me the same response about cutting the album down to one disc, but i would be very hard pressed to cut anything off the album. MS and rosebud and fantastic songs, though I would agree that beautiful sorta and blossom are some of the weaker tracks on the album. still, as much as i love easy tiger, there appears to be more 'filler' on this album than on CR, which i think flows brilliantly despite being 2 discs. to each his own though!
on a side note: i hope this dvd that graboff mentioned is being released this year is all these studio videos of the cardinals performing the new material. it is driving me nuts having to go to different websites to see the different vids. i also can't wait to see ryan become part of the cardinals. i reckon that is going to lead to some incredible song-writing between ryan and neal...
-
i really wanted that one last night
there's only 2-3 so-so songs on it for me (Halloween Head, mostly just hate the lyrics, it was fantastic last night, the new version of Off Broadway (not too big on his falsetto on the new version), and Rip Off (chorus melody is pretty, song is a bit dull and the lyrics aren't that good).
solid 4 star album for me i'd say, and his most all around consistent since Gold.
i too am a big fan of easy tiger, but you think it is more consistent than cold roses??
-
oh he was still plenty goofy a few times between songs (awww Snap!), but he kept it to a minimum for the most part. his story about the entire plain munching on pizzaria Combo's was pretty funny.
he wore sun glasses for a good portion of the show, which was amusing considering how dark he had the lighting guy turn down the lights
yea, he had those on when i recently saw him at the bbc and koko here in the UK. i reckon it is because he had his book of lyrics on a stand in front of him and didn't want to be too obvious that he was reading from them. he also kept taking them off inbetween songs, so i think it was just to hide himself if he needed to use the book...
sounds like last night was a great show, hope everyone had a geat time! the tunes, new and old, sound incredible with the current 'acoustic' set-up, especially goodnight rose, dear john, oh my god whatever and i see monsters.

shit man glen is kicking ass
indeed he is, but isn't he always?!
