Hey, it gets paid forward Seriously, precious little has been said about how the OTS Wilco Ensemble maintains its own comraderie in the Wilco community. You can see by the posting numbers how infrequently most members contribute to this forum, but that doesn't mean that they aren't supporting Jeff and Wilco and their projects and the interests they champion. They will be in attendance at any Wilco-related show in the area (and some quite far off -- I'm going to be in Melbourne with my daughter in March!!), as well as those of anything related to Wilco, including the sub-groups spun off f

Audo from last year's show was streamed over bittorrent without objection from the Tweedys. I assume it will happen again this year. But seriously, the best way to see it is to befriend someone who was there. I guarantee they will show you their performance repeatedly until you puke. Many thanks, again, to Steph and the other "old timers" who gave up their spots so the "newbies" could have a chance. You guys are saints. Oh, and speaking of photos... http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2014...amp;id=54300398

You give me WAY too much credit. I can't even boot up my computer most days I know we don't have a color scanner at work, and the closest Kinkos is probably in Schaumburg. One of these days...

Well, y'all need to start taking classes again. It's gotten much cooler since they started the Wilco Ensemble.

She means the copy Jeff autographed for me. That picture was taken at the Old Town School 50th Anniversary show, where some photographer managed to snap Jeff smiling at a weird angle where it looks like he's fawning over me. Jeff made a comment about it, so when he autographed it, he put these little hearts over his head and some lines indicating a directional gaze at me. It's really pretty funny. If I could figure out how to get it onto my computer, I'd post it.

Does that make me a Jeff Tweedy gigolo?

30, officially. Unofficial totals have yet to be released. Jeff and Sue brought one of their friends. How cool is that?

It was just like the record -- only guitar (Jeff), mandolin and fiddle. They were going to go through the P.A., and then Jeff suggested that they do it off the P.A., like his live shows. It sounded great live; we'll have to see if Chandler picked them up.

This is the first year we've done covers. Jeff initially acted like he wasn't particularly thrilled about doing it, but as the song progressed, he got more and more into it. Here's a link to some photos; I'm sure there will be more: http://web.mac.com/johnrooksjr/iWeb/Site/J...Highlights.html

It's fucking useless!!!

Yeah, I think so....

That was the first Wilco Ensemble show. 1/28/06. I know there's a thread, because Mel won the award for "best first-time poster" But I'm completely clueless about how to search the archives on this site since the format changed.

Jeff wanted to do it without the PA, but that's a little tough in a theatre like the Auditorium. He did his three solo songs in front of the monitors, and then they moved his mic back when we came out to play with him. The cool part for me was rehearsing in his dressing room before we went on. Cali Stars was an add-on. We weren't supposed to do it, but once the show went past 10:30, all the union guys at the Auditorium got a pay hike, so the school figured they ought to make the most of it and we got the green light.

Jeff's playing the Auditorium on Dec. 1 for the Old Town School 50th anniversary.... for those that are going to be in town that long. You can get tickets through Ticketmaster

One thing I can tell you is that Jeff commented that Greg seemed to focus on the early years (confirming Kyjygyfyf's observation) and surmised that it was because Greg was already quite familiar with the post-UT musicianship as a result of his work with the Tribune. I detected an element of bitterness in the comment (just MHO) - like that something written about Wilco ought to really be about Wilco and not about tweedy/farrar

Jeff told me at Erin's LRS that he was still pissed that Kot hasn't returned photos that were "borrowed" from Sue and his family. I don't know if Jeff was kidding. He autographed my copy of the book "All lies!!!!"

I loved the "Kitty Cake"!! Great job, Rich, and all of TWE

Mitchum probably listened to the album once. His is a common reaction of thoe who have done so, and not unlike mine. It's the same reaction I've had the first time I have listened to any Wilco album. Listen to it several times. It grows on you. This guy thinks "Shake It Off" is the worst cut on the record? It's the best!! And it will stand the test of time. The mellower stuff is Jeff in an new paradigm. There were people who thought that "Sgt. Pepper" was the demise of the Beatles (not that I'm comparing this album to that). Artists change, and their environment and lifestyle change

THAT'S the one I was looking for!! (notice the Lou Malnati's Chicago-style deep-dish pizza and assorted goodies assembled for Jeff to take with him) Thanks, Erin, I'll keep you posted on W.E. stuff. p.s., I really enjoyed talking to your dad. He used to live in Palatine, where I grew up, and it turns out we have mutual acquaintances. What a small world.

But wow....that's quite a statement! Yeah, that was a poor choice of words. I didn't mean to insult anybody. I just love the detail in this poster. Every time I look at it I see something else I didn't notice before. That dog looks right out of a Snuffy Smith cartoon.

Y,know, Erin, if you were in the Wilco Ensemble, we would have music stands upon which to place whatever prompts you might need. This year, Jeff and I shared one. We kept pivoting it back and forth, depending on who needed it most at any particular point in time. Do not apologize! You go, girl! You were absolutely fantastic. The icing on a perfect cake.
