  1. just noticed this lyric the other day in the magpie song:

Come on sorrow, take your own advice

Hide under the bed, turn out the lights

doesn't have the emotion when you just read it on the page, but when she sings it - awesome. for some reason it reminds me of something jeff would write, personifying sorrow as a rational (or perhaps irrational) being.

i think magpie in the morning is one of the most impressive songs she's ever created. those lines get in your head and stay in there all day. lyrically it's full of imagery and allusions... definitely a shining point for her artistically.

this entire album is exploding with commercial viability - she could really explode if they market it well.

Can anyone with liner notes help a brother out?

    Muchas gracias

this article says steve berlin plays a midi-saxophone solo while birds are chirping... i don't have the album on my work computer but i do remember that part. possibly the magpie song?

  2. I dig it, and it's growing on me with each listen, but no way is it as good as either Blacklisted or Fox Confessor.

it is the most impressive thing she's done, easily in terms of vocal range and skill. the backup vocals are also a step above what she's recorded in her previous albums. i'm also quite digging the whole theme of the album, it isn't just a collection of songs like blacklisted was and confessor. all of these songs contribute to the themes of nature and humanity and love. we are simply products of nature and will return to the earth when we die. she is crying out against the idea that humans are special just because we say we are. nothing new to be sure, this stuff has been dealt with in philosophy for eons, but she does it very well in song and verse using illusions and characters created in her mind and brought to life through her songs. she's done this type of "character creation" before with confessor, but not nearly as successfully.

  3. i dunno if this has been posted, but the entire album is streaming for free at npr, or at least will be for another day before it releases.

seriously - one hell of an album. best thing i've heard in a year and a half. better than fox confessor, possibly better than blacklisted. she's the complete package these days - being just as impressive with the instruments and arrangements as she is with her voice.

  4. damn finally heard this cd (listened to it about 20 times already) in full on npr - wow unbelievable. i'm going to easily say this album is better than anything released in 2008 (one of the weakest years for music in a long time). this is an album that i'd pay $50 for.

neko has really outdone herself. only bad part of the entire album is the last track, but i guess i've come to accept that all musical geniuses have their eccentricities that sometimes make it onto albums... jeff did something similar with ghost is born.

  5. ok the single off this album - i downloaded from amazon the other day

that is the best song i've heard in the last 2 or 3 years. the vocals on it are mesmerizing - every time i listen to it i pick up on something new. i'm really really hyped for this album now... can't wait for tuesday

  6. I could barely stay focused. Bored me to tears. What can I say. Gran Torino was more classic Eastwood for me - Heartbreak Ridge, Dirty Harry style.

i cried too, but not from being bored. "do me like that dog boss, do me like that dog" [paraphrased]

  7. i think he should get out of the scene for a while - he needs to do what bob dylan is doing now... releasing a new album every 5 years or so. let only the best songs get released. i think his work is great, but he does have a habit of mixing his great songs with his not so good songs and if he just released less material he'd have a lot more great albums. he's incredibly talented though to be able to write as much as he can, and some of his stuff is just pure genius.

  8. Not to beat a dead (fat) horse, but watching this again proves the band is far better without Jay.

lets see, classic albums made when jay was in the band - 3

classic albums made when jay was not in the band - 0

yep wilco is so much better without him. really, he had nothing to do with being there, summerteeth, or yankee hotel foxtrot. nels could have done it all and even better, right?

    give me a break...

  9. WB and Youtube's agreement expired a couple of weeks ago. WB said something to the effect of: until we hammer out the details we'll do whatever we can to protect our artists.

haha what a joke... who exactly are they protecting removing these videos?

  10. does that version work for acoustic though? i didn't know jeff uses that tuning

I think it might just be there interpretation but I have not tried it with the album yet. It's really just 2 measures of the intro (capo on 1st fret) and 2 interpretations of a few riffs.

Let me save you the trouble:

    E7, A7, B7, A

Then there's an F# on occasion.

It does say Words and Music by Jay Bennett so Jay did not get ignored.

jay wrote i'm the man who loves you?

  11. Now the other advantage of Blu Ray is uncompressed audio and the band is right it was recorded only in stereo but was still compressed to Dolby Digital 2.0 for the DVD, which is like turning a WAV file into a MP3 so to have uncompressed audio would actually be the biggest upgrade and advantage which the band should care about. I am totally with Wilco on the cost of Blu Rays being a complete rip off because it is. Sony charges so much for the technology which is why the discs are so high but in fact it is just as easy to make a Blu Ray disc as a DVD just different encoding techniques. So if Plexi Film really wants people to purchase this title twice they should price it the same as the 2 disc DVD just like Criterion is doing for their Blu Ray releases.

yeah this was my point, but i didn't know the specifics. one of the best parts about blu-ray is the better audio, but I think you only take advantage of that if you have a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound speaker system hooked up to your tv. considering i thought this dvd sounded great as is, i bet it would sound even more amazing on the blu-ray.

  12. Oh herro!

I'm trying to learn how to play hallelujah by jeff buckley.

    here is the tab:

    http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/j/jeff...ah_ver5_tab.htm

I had a question for the more experienced guitar players out there. First of all, this song is played using a pick right and not just plucking with fingers? Secondly, if it is indeed played using a pick, then how do you play the second measure (playing what i guess turns out to be a A on the 1st string and a D# on the 3rd string (xxx3x0))? Do you use the pick to play one of the notes and finger the other note with your fingers or do you just use your fingers for both notes? I find it doesn't sound very good when I use the pick for one of the notes and my finger for the other... is Jeff Buckley wearing something on his finger to let him pluck the notes?

p.s. is pluck the right word to use, i feel weird typing that...

    thanks.
