  1. Knoxville was good.

Nothing will probably ever top the Ryman shows that preceded it though.

Where I was in the pit was very strange. There were very few young people in the pit- lots of older affluent looking folks. Many seats were also vacant... it made for a sort of strange time. Not many people around me were very into it. The guy to my left just stood there and kinda glared then left halfway through the show. I wish that folks would have been allowed to come down and fill the empty spots, but they had security on the entrance and you had to have a wristband to get back in. Lame.

On the topic of seating, I was refreshing over and over like I always do for pre-sale tickets - scored front row for the 2006 show at the TN Theater that way - and it put me back in Row P for this one. So I'm thinking the pre-sale seats weren't the best. At least that was my experience. Probably for the better as we had our 11-year-old with us - her first Wilco show - and it might have been a little loud for her up there.

  3. Not to make this some sort of political thing, I totally respect your opinion and everything, but someone being against flag burning isn't that ridiculous. I guess you can make a case that going through with the prosecution for flag burning is a bit extreme. I am against flag burning of any country because to me, it is disrespectful to the people who have died for it. I guess I just feel that calling the anti-flag burning stance ridiculous is a bit extreme, when there are way more things that you could be prospected for, that are in fact ridiculous (small possessions of pot)

Now, to the question at hand, this is how I have always took that lyric. I feel that Jeff was trying to compare himself (or whoever) to a burned American Flag. A burned flag has failed its purpose to whomever burned it. An American flag stands for certain ideals, and if it has been reduced to ashes, then those ideals no longer exist for the person who burned it. I think that Jeff thought of himself as that burned flag, something that could have been great, but failed (which is why he would die if he could come back new)

It appeared to me that Bhickman was calling the prosecution of flag-burning ridiculous, not people being against flag-burning. Big difference.

  4. isnt tonight the boys' first show since word got out about jay's passing? im really hoping we'll hear something from them tonight.

I understand what you're saying, but I am really hoping that they are able to deal with their grief in whatever ways works for each/all of them, be it publicly or privately.

  5. not worth getting up close in my opinion. if your solo i would just try and move your way up as close as you can before the show. in order to get a nice spot you'll have to hang out there all day and claim an area. you'll miss a lot of good music, not to mention getting drinks/going to the bathroom will be a major pain. your best bet is to just take what you can and not sacrifice any other music for a good wilco spot. just go to a show on the tour if you want to see them up close.

I am a one-time Roo veteran going again this year, and I echo Dondante's sentiments. To get a spot on the rail, you have to pretty much camp out there all day. I guess there are worse places to be since Rod y Gab are on the same stage before Wilco. But it would still suck to have to be planted there all day and miss what is going on elsewhere. And frankly, on the main stage, even being on the rail isn't really that close to the band - you can get much closer when you see them out on tour.

  6. Is it weird that NOW is the first time I've actually wanted an iphone?

Not at all, I feel the same way.

It should pass though, especially if it is really just like the website as some have posted. Couldn't iPhones already access the internet? Is this "app" just a button for the desktop that takes you directly to the site?

  7. Wow. That is insanely slow.

I'm leaning toward not even pre-ordering on this one. (Even though I know kungfu Music Today.)

Just show up at a real record store and buy it on the release day, just like God intended.

That's my plan. I am sick of waiting around for my pre-orders to show up after everyone else already has theirs, so I am going to go buy it in a store.

  8. You may need to reinstall Quicktime or update it to the latest version.

Agh!!! I hate, hate, hate Quicktime. Every time I try to use it I have to re-install even though I have the most recent version. Ack!

  9. I am not able to hear the stream. Is this common? Or am I doing something wrong? On the player I get a little countdown and then it says "switching transports" forever until it times out. I am using Firefox. Anyone having the same problem or am I all alone in this cold world?

  10. They are influencing those who rely on their reviews when buying albums... They are known to have an effect on the sales of artists (See The Airborne Toxic Event). Wilco doesn't give a damn at all....

And why does this worry you?

We are going in circles. It all boils down to: if you really care that much what other people think about something/someone that you happen to like, I am asking why. What is the actual impact of that opinion on the world, other than offending you for some reason? Are you in a band that got a bad review from Pitchfork and you blame your band's inability to "make it big" on that review? (Actually, that would at least make sense...)
