  1. they toured a bunch in the early days. that changed with Out of Time when they decided to take a break from the road. i was lucky to see them in smaller places. Document was the first time in an arena with NRBQ opening. that was a great show. best was @ the paramount in seattle for Life's Rich Pageant with Guadalcanal Diary opening. i just got a boot of that show that's pretty mighty. 1 of the encores Stipe came out with a ghetto blaster & performed We Don't Need Another Hero by himself. pretty wild.

I saw them with NRBQ in 1989 on the Green tour in Ames, IA. We were not impressed with NRBQ, I think they put on a pretty drunken show. Doing some research about this show I see that they closed with a cover of VU's After Hours. I have absolutenly no recollection of that.

  2. In San Francisco (maybe all of California? I've lost track), tennis is NOT permitted.

That seems strange. Is there a fear that strangers in neighboring courts could pass the virus by mindlessly shagging each other's balls?

I'm thinking once it's a bit warmer, I'll head to the local park's pickleball courts to play with my son. We're way closer in our house than we would playing pickleball.

  3. I realized that if I'm not able to find time to exercise during this self-quarantine period it's never going to happen.

I seriously miss the ellipticals I used at my school's fitness room and the local YMCA. I hate biking when it's below 50. The cold shreds my lungs. So.... using an old Airdyne stationary bike that is totally uncomfortable or going for 1.5-2 hour walks.

  4. Lost my job today.

    Been there 14 years.

    Started when I was 19.

I guess I file for unemployment and hope they hire me back when we go back to normal living? I don’t know what to do. Face hurts from crying. Terrified they’re gonna lay my husband off too.

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear that.

  5. i can't get a test & am high risk with some symptoms. NBA players & actors don't seem to be having any trouble. lot of propaganda out there to hide the real trouble in the US.

Your avatar seems partiularly relevant right now. Please take every precaution and stay healthy. It feels weird to go out for walks and get off the sidewalk when walking past others. The best thing I've seen regarding social distancing (which I'm in day 5 of right now, and as a public school teacher in Iowa will continue for at least another 4 weeks) is don't act like you don't want to get the virus, act like you have it already and don't want to spread it to others.

  6. I appreciate that there are vulnerable segments of society that need resources and special care, but it's not ebola for God's sake.

The vast majority of people will have a bit of a cough and no worse that usual annual flu.

The whole world needs to calm down a bit.

We don't need panic, but we do need preparation and "flattening the curve".

  7. Thinking about a race that began with African-Amerians, an Asian, a gay man, and a huge swath of diversity in terms of age and experience has come down to two old guys who've spent a big chunk of their career in the Senate is depressing.
