I think the only reason I learned anything past the civil war was because I took AP history my senior year and we got to the 1930's in that. I know for a fact that we never learned anything about Korea or Vietnam in school. A little must have been taught about WWII, but I don't really remember. I think we learned more in our lit class when we read Diary of a Young Girl.

I understand why they do it. But I just think that it gets a little out of control at times. I also think there should be some sort of limits on it. Any time my ex was short money for whatever reason, he'd go file a grievance and come home with a check for $500 for doing nothing. Don't let people work overtime if it's not scheduled, period! Don't make it so easy for people to take advantage of it. It costs the company a shit ton of money. I don't have the answers on how to fix it, I just don't like how it works as is.

That's true. Ford couldn't pay a financial analyst with 6 years experience less than what they pay their hourly workers. I don't hate the union. I think the union is a good thing for the auto industry in terms of safety and the best interest of the employee. For instance, the employees pay absolutely nothing for their health/dental/vision insurance (I don't know if this has changed recently, but last I knew this was how it was). That is a union bargained for benefit. What's wrong with making the employee pay a portion of their insurance costs? We were advised by someone in the mortgage industry to go for an interest only loan with little down instead of a 30 year fixed with 20% down. They tried to rope us in with "you'll be able to buy all new furniture and go on a trip with that money instead." Good thing we're smarter than that. I never got the chance to meet Nat in person and I didn't know her very well on VC other than talking about Ann Arbor a couple of times. I wish I would have had the chance to get to know her better. She touched the lives of so many great people and I know she is missed very much.
