If it's someone who doesn't sound like a telemarketer, I'll answer their questions. I don't have caller ID, so I usually answer anyways. I had a call a couple days ago from a local high school kid who was volunteering for the Obama campaign. I was just excited that an 18 year old kid was actually involved and wanted to help him out.

I swear, I get like 4 calls a day for voter surveys. I think I only got 2 calls total during the 2004 election.

I agree and that's the point he was trying to make. That people shouldn't take the old testament so literally. He wasn't directly trying to apply science to it, just showing how it might have worked together, if that's what someone wants to believe.

Do this. Don't do that. Can't you read the sign?

Oh definitely a Mary Kay lady.

I watched a little bit of a speech she gave yesterday and she just doesn't sound confident at all. Her voice sounds week.

I asked the deacon at my church to clarify the whole creation thing for me. He explained that although the bible says that the world was created in a week, that doesn't necessarily mean that it was created in 7 days. Methuselah lived 969 years according to the bible but we all know that isn't humanly possible. Sometimes things had other meanings in the time that the bible was written. He thinks that the age translated to how "great" a person was or how important a person was in society. He explained that the first day may have been the whole "big bang" thing. Billions of years later, w

It's only socialism when they're hurting. When they're doing good, it's capitalism, baby!

How was I, in Michigan with a family and a job that I desparately needed at the time, supposed to go help with clean up? You had to be a trained professional to go in there. They wouldn't let anyone with a shovel who wanted to help in there. How was I supposed to help with the families who lost loved ones? Besides donating money, that is. Grieving is a very private time, I couldn't just look someone up in the phone book and call and ask if there was anything I could do to help. I couldn't travel there, I had two little kids at the time. There were benefits that people donated to, ther

Besides re-electing Bush and all that, what makes you think they just went on as usual? Because they went to work the next day? Because they had to go pick their kids up a pair of shoes for school at the mall? Because they took their family out to eat? What were they supposed to do? Life goes on. If someone isn't directly affected, it doesn't mean they don't care. People have jobs, kids, homes that need to be taken care of too. I don't remember much of anything that I did in the days following 9/11 as that time was pretty much a fog. I do know that I had to go to work the next day or

What exactly were people supposed to do? I live in Michigan. Was I supposed to drive to NYC and NOLA and help dig people out? I think most people were sending vibes, saying prayers, etc because beyond donating money and supplies, there wasn't really anything they COULD do. I don't know of anyone who didn't give a damn.

Don't worry, the Chinamen won't make it into Alaska. Your girl Sarah has that covered.

I stumbled across that website when I was looking for canning recipes. It's pretty over the top, but they have been preparing for the end times since 1998 or something.

My car on average gets driven about 10 miles a day. That's probably a stretch because there are a lot of days it never leaves the driveway. Jay drives 52 miles a day, just to work and back. That doesn't count if he has to run errands on his lunch hour or if he goes anywhere after work. Most of the people who live where I do drive at least 50-80 miles to and from work every day. I'm about 30 miles southwest of Ann Arbor, but I live in a town with a population of about 2500. There just aren't jobs here.

He makes points that he's introduced legislation to stop mortgage fraud, to help the housing market, etc. before all of this crisis started when John McCain did nothing to prepare for it, just like the Bush administration. Something about how they do nothing and then when something bad happens they scramble to make it look better. He also said how when asked for a solution to the housing crisis, John McCain said he didn't have one. I'm sure the speech will be out on YouTube later today. I wish I had more details, but I had 2 toddlers in the room with me and one was trying to play the Wii

When they make an 8 passenger vehicle that gets more than 23 mpg, please let me know.

nah, I don't even take myself seriously in this thread.

I know. I laughed.

I should have seen that one coming.

I think Obama is handling this whole financial crisis WAY better than McCain. Is it sad that I was almost moved to tears watching his speech in Golden, CO?

I have a friend who lives in New York and had one of the shutters blown off of her house and her patio table thrown from the deck into the middle of the yard. It's one of those big glass tables and they still can't find the umbrella. It was windy here and really, really rainy but we only suffered a leaky roof. I don't remember getting that much rain in a really long time. We got some rain with Gustav, but nothing like Ike. It's amazing to think that was the same storm that came all the way from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, thru Cuba, Texas, and then up through the midwest and back

Eh, no worries. It was nice to have a break from the election stuff anyways. Plus, that TGI Friday's guy is a if I ever saw one.
