  1. Let me just start off by saying that I had pretty low expectations coming into this. After reading about some other VC'ers latest experiences at a Dylan show (mostly negative, that he's hit or miss from night to night) I was resigned to just take it as is and be ok with a sub-par show. Well, let's just say Bob had an "on" night! (According to the guy next to me, who was at the show in Calgary and not impressed, last night's show was amazing!) I was 8th row center on the floor, but i moved up into the 4th row when he first came out and everybody stood up and stayed standing throughout the night. Perfect view of him and the band the entire night. I was around a good group of people who were really into the music so I had fun dancing with them and just being amazed with the level of performance from the band...and Bob too. Like I said, I wasn't expecting a great show, but to see Bob cracking smiles (brief, mind you) and grinding his feet into the floor and really getting into the music....well, it was just great. From where I was the sound was pretty good, although I knew people who had seats farther back and they didn't have a good time because they said they couldn't hear Bob's vocals about the band. The arrangements from all of the old songs sounded great! I just love all of the bluesy numbers! Very danceable!!! Well, here's the setlist taken from Bob's website:

    Watching The River Flow

    The Times They Are A-Changin'

    Lonesome Day Blues

    Girl From The North Country

    High Water (for Charlie Patton)

    Chimes Of Freedom

    Rollin' And Tumblin'

    A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall

Til I Fell In Love With You

    Beyond The Horizon

    Summer Days

    Love Sick

    Highway 61 Revisited

    Ain't Talkin'

    Thunder On The Mountain

    Like A Rolling Stone

    All Along The Watchtower

I was really hoping to hear him play Visions of Johanna (which he did a few nights ago in Kamploops, I think), but hearing Girl From The North Country and A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall...plus the encore....damn! It was all good!!

  2. Man, I wish a tide of orange would sweep across Canada. I voted for the NDP in my riding, which makes me feel good that I will be giving the party the $1.75 (or whatever it is) per vote. However, other than that my vote will be a complete waste. The only votes that matter are the ones that are cast for the winning MP in each riding. If you don't happen to vote for that person then your vote doesn't matter. And because this is a single member plurality (a majority isn't needed to win), this means that in some consituencies, the Majority of people's vote may not matter. :no

  3. The two songs that affected me the most were Fljotavik and Vidrar vel til Loftalasa and they both caused me to tear up because they are just so damn beautiful. The audience was awesome, being incredibly quiet until the very last note of each song had died out and then a huge applause erupted. It really was one of the best concerts i have ever been to (not that i've been to A LOT ;) of shows). Then a funny thing happened when the gang from Parachutes came out to do some drumming on Gobbledigook, they were all dressed in Star Wars costumes which gave Jonsi a really big laugh. It was pretty awesome! The confetti was pretty magical. It seems silly that little pieces of paper can make people giddy the way confetti does, but it just added to an amazing moment during Festival and then into Goobledigook. I would hate to be the ones who had to clean it up though!

The encore was wicked! I think the band really wanted to end the tour on a bang! Popplagid was a truly mindbending way to end the show. VERY INTENSE. The audience wanted them to come out and play just one more song, but they didn't have time. The band just came out on stage once more and said how great the night was, as well as the entire tour, and took a bow with the members of Parachutes to end the evening.

    Really amazing experience. Period.

  4. Just wanted to see if there is anymore love for Chad VanGaalen at this point. I just saw him in Vancouver on Thursday night to a sold out crowd and it was AWESOME! I bought his new record, Soft Airplane, and I like it much more than his past 2 releases. It is more of a cohesive album IMO with no clunkers in the mix. I really liked about half of his other songs on each previous album, and the rest never really grew on me.

I highly recommend you check him out live if he comes to a place near you and buy his latest album. Seriously, I listened to it the entire drive back from Vancouver and it never bored me.

This was my first time seeing the band, and I was blown away! I was with my brother and one of my sisters and we had GREAT seats: 4th row, dead center. The Chan Center was really beautiful. Apparently the architecture was inspired by the design of a cello. It had a very warm feeling, created by all of the wood, I think. It looked like there really wasn't a bad seat in the place (which was sold out) and the energy in the room was amazing!

The openers, Parachutes, were pleasant. That's about it though. I enjoyed watching them play moreso because they seemed like they were having a really fun time (or really relieved that this was the last show of the tour, i don't know) and that just boosted the energy of the place even more. I guess all of their songs seemed to be very similar, same kind of structure, same quite to loud build up... so yeah, pleasant, but i wouldn't buy there cd.

Then came Sigur Ros. :worship My brother told me after the show that he could have lived without hearing Svefn-G-Englar because they always play it i guess, but i was glad to experience it live. The sound of the entire show was superb! The lighting and stage projections only added to the amazing performances that were taking place on stage. There were two songs that I was especially glad to hear, but I will have to continue this later tonight. I guess I got to go for supper.

  6. Anyone else seeing them on this tour? If you haven't seen them before do yourself a favor and go already!

:dancing i can't wait! i'm seeing them with my brother and sister in Vancouver. It'll be my first show and their second. I've been listening to the latest album a lot lately. We're in the middle of the 4th row, in the gorgeous Chan Center at UBC!!!

  7. It's because he's lost his edge. The previous albums were mostly better than SBS. So sounds like next one will be as bland as SBS.

Opens up the argument about the best music coming from dark places, rather than happy ones. Right now in his life, happy = bland, right? When he was down he turned out corker after corker.

i don't think that SBS is bland at all. but of course, that is my opinion, and I respect the fact that you have a differing one. :hmm
