I probably need to put more thought into this, but off the top of my head: 1. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 2. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver 3. The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America 4. Kanye West - Late Registration 5. Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica As for songs: 1. LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends 2. The Hold Steady - Killer Parties 3. Wilco - Poor Places 4. Wolf Parade - I'll Believe in Anything 5. Outkast - Hey Yah! 6. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife 1, 2, & 3 7. Nas - Can't Forget About You 8. Bloc Party - This Modern Love 9. Kanye West - Jesu

Please fix your headphones.

Yeah, I've listened to it through twice since I bought it yesterday. I'm still trying to digest it. I don't know if I ever remember an artist releasing an album that is as different from the first as this. The lyrics and flow are breathtaking, and they fixed the breath control problems that existed in his first album. This album is just so much darker and more atmospheric than Food and Liquor.

Wow, I feel the same way!...about my list of course. I do think it is a little ridiculous to quibble over list placement and to complain when albums that were only marginally well received by everyone but yourself is not included in an end of year top 50 list. I've heard countless people complain on numerous message boards that bands like Interpol aren't included in a list; I mean, I understand that you may disagree, but are you really surprised that it wasn't included? But what bothers me is when publications like Paste or AV Club put out lists purporting to rank the "best music of 2007"

Kanye's my favorite going, but there are a lot of great hip hop artists not doing the '"shoot you up' and 'bang hos' type of stuff" as tibbles so eloquently put it. Off the top of my head (besides those listed by Geoff): Nas Lupe Fiasco Pharoahe Monch Little Brother CunninLynguists Talib Kweli Rhymefest Pete Philly & Perquisite El-P Murs Aesop Rock and on and on....

Paste's list is a joke.
-
Am I supposed to be surprised by this?

I would be delighted to hear a thoughtful explanation of this post. You know, I understand that people don't enjoy hip hop. I just don't understand why many of those people go out of their way to insult it.
-
So MIA is the only hip hop album worthy of mention in 2007? Give me a fucking break.
-
This morning so far: LCD Soundsystem - s/t Little Brother - Get Back CunninLynguists - Dirty Acres

Yeah, that was my favorite part of the Nike mix too. In reality, All My Friends, Someone Great, and North American Scum are probably 3 of my 10 favorite songs of the year. Edit: I think seeing them perform All My Friends live at Lolla enhanced my appreciation for the song.
-
I think All My Friends might be my song of the decade right now.
-
Yeah, it's great. But I saw them live this summer, so I don't know if would be as good for someone who wasn't there.
-
absolutely not Animal Collective. You probably can't go wrong w/ LCD Soundsystem It's tough with that broad of a description, I mean I would definitely recommend the Tough Alliance, but he might think it's too poppy. Maybe Simian Mobile Disco or Justice. One of my favorite albums of the year is Gui Boratto's Chromophobia, but it's sort of ambient minimalist techno

The 20th Century Masters series is a major culprit
