Solution...buy a CD player where you see it turning. There are such things, particularly on boomboxes. They turn really really fast and it is kind of cool. LouieB

Actually the LP I have that remains unopened (I wonder if the download is still good) is Real Close Ones. LouieB

You are right..she wasn't BEING antisemetic, she was just using a term that is linked to antisemetism. I heard this same opinion expressed on WNUR This is Hell today. She is really clueless. LouieB

Justin Townes Earle will be playing at a public library
LouieB replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Not so strange. I have friend who's son is battlng a herion addiction and he made it through rehab and immediately relapsed. Sometimes serval rehabs are necessary. Now he is in a day program and doing pretty well, but it is always touch and go. Justin could well do the same and derail his career badly, but so far he seems pretty good. Being on the road is a hard place to stay on the straight and narrow. Plenty of artists have not made it. I wish Justin only the best. He is a great guy and a talented performer, but he has had these troubles before and could again without lots and lots -
You are more or less correct. It is a fairly specific term to refer to Jews killing children to put their blood in the passover matzo. By trying to say that Palin's actions led to the shootings in Tuscon is her verson of being blood libeled. If she had only stopped at saying that connecting her to the shooting was libel, well okay, that would have been a reasonable point, since even those of us who aren't Palin fans don't think she was personally responsible for this (I would hardly give her this much credit...). By trying to connect herself to what is the most heinous of old school ant

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.

It is. The entire campus is interesting and there are some great bookstores down there too. Hyde Park is Barack Obama's neighborhood too. PM us if you need anything. LouieB -

Thanks Bob...and thanks for having my back. (Comment deleted.) Hyde Park is very fun and a great place to go. Sorry to be on a soapbox, but I wasn't suggesting he not go. LouieB -

Rather then contradict me, give him directions. I am fine with trying to get someone somewhere (where at that point he has no reason to go, because the dancing is on a night he isn't going to be here), but it would take me a bit of time to figure out how to get from the far north side to Hyde Park and then find his way from the bus to the building where the dancing is taking place, since it is on campus. I know plenty of folks who live here who would be hard pressed to get from even the Loop to Hyde Park if htey had never done it before. I have been trying to help this guy out, maybe you c -

Chicago is certainly a real American city. Make sure you have some place to stay. At this point I would stay close to downtown and do some fun stuff within walking or close bus/taxi proximity. Get your bearings and come back again when you have more time. A trip by bus to Hyde Park (you are missing dancing anyway) is for those who are not beginners here. We have lots of museums, restaurants, shopping, a few clubs, etc. right around the central business districts. If you stay at the hostel you will meet other young people too. As things go with government offices, your getting a new pas -

There is a reasonably nice hostel in downtown not far from the Art Institute. Having never needed to stay there I can't comment on it too much. Monday January 17 is Martin Luther King birthday holiday. Not everything will be closed, but alot of the government offices will be (maybe not the counsulate). Make sure you call ahead on that. If you take the bus in, the bus station is not so great and is on the near west side. Get a map and have a place to stay before you get here. See this hostel, which is not too far from the bus station and near public transportation. I hate to be dis -

Thanks. I found this also, but then again you live down that way so you have a better feel for it. Note to kevintoy, Hyde Park is on the southside, so while it is not impossible to get to, if you are staying on the northside, expect to take the bus or drive. Looks like kind of a good time. I can't dance, so I would not have a good time. LouieB -

Hopefully someone else will chime in here. Swing dancing was a fad here about 15 or 20 years ago so I think you may be late for that. I am sure there are "clubs" (as opposed to clubs) where folks get together and do that sort of thing now, just as I am sure you can find line dancing if you look. I would suggest a google search. (I did and it appears most of the activity is organized by clubs. If you need help figuring out where stuff is, PM me directly.) What kind of ride do you want? Depending on the timing and what you want to do, I have been known to give people rides. LouieB -
That's all it really was supposed to do I guess. None of this is going to keep Sarah Palin from using an anti-semetic term to keep her from feeling guilty about her behavor. Neither she nor any of the other talking heads created this situation, but they also aren't being very humble about it in light of what has occured. LouieB

I bought this Jakob Dylan CD recently but haven't yet gotten around to listening to it....by now it has gotten nice and cheap. LouieB

Good question. My thought exactly. Maybe they figure that everyone in Arisona already carries a gun. LouieB

As long as any of these formats sells, they will be sold. The death of the CD is greatly exaggerated, which doesn't mean it ain't sick. LouieB

Actually Justin has an extensive worldwide tour going after a successful rehab. He will be in Chicago at the Metro on February 10. The Bloodshot folks are happy now. And I am sure his fans are also. Not to mention his parents and himself. LouieB -
It is really wonderful that Jim Becker has steady work in this band for the next two years. I know he is pleased too. LouieB

I finally got a copy of the Byrds at Albert Hall 1971 during the holidays. I was at that show and it sure was fun to relive it. Of course I was way up in the balcony but still. LouieB

They may not be the best of the year, but I just read in the NY Times about some Jefferson Airplane show CDs that seem interesting (one of which I just bought.) LouieB

Nope, done with that. Additionally it would be interesting to see what the reissue houses sell as well. Drag City realistically prices its LP which is very thoughtful. LouieB
