  3. Finally got around to listening to the first 2 and half LPs. Pretty damn cool stuff. As expected it is somewhat derivitive, but they guy really could put it all out there. LouieB
  4. This is a benefit for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Good cause. LouieB
  5. I played through the Whitmark Demos...great stuff. LouieB
  6. I would have thought the first and most obvious response was "Respect" sung by Aretha Franklin. LouieB
  7. Hmmm...let's see again. I am not insulting half the country. I am only insulting the less than half that isn't really thinking. that doesn't include folks who think we should be attacking the budget deficit, as I have said, I am all for that, as is Obama. And thanks for letting me know that racists are people too. For hundreds of years racists didn't think black people (or Jews or Asians or other ethnicities) were human. I guess we do need a racists civil rights movement. Obama is doing stuff. People are pissed because he isn't doing enough about the economy (those on the left mostly); th
  8. Actually this isn't true in two respects..... 1. He has done stuff (start with the health care bill and work your way out) so plenty of folks DO think he has done stuff and they don't like it. 2. If he hasn't done anything how come the teapartiers are so pissed off??? Hence my belief that just getting elected was enough to piss some folks off. You don't piss people off by doing nothing......or do you if you are simply of a different race, politically different, or willing to support folks others don't like (gays, etc.) George Bush did plenty (Sarah Palin....not so much); he started
  9. Thanks bro!! But we know at least one VCer who thinks he is a commie.... LouieB
  10. Really???? Let's see. In this discussion I have repeated said I can understand the "fiscal" conservatism of folks here. I really can. Does anyone want to see the deficits run totally away from us? But the conservative movement didn't seem to care when George Bush was running the deficite to new heights during his administration or when he requested bail out money for the banks or when he was running a couple wars off the books. Only when the somewhat more liberal Obama wants to move forward on some of his agenda does the right get all bent out of shape about stuff. Why? Because the righ
  11. While the Robert Johnson story is pure fiction, Charlie Parker did get laughed off the bandstand, went home and practiced his ass off, so that he could play in every key (something even jazz musicians didn't have to do at that time) and came back and changed modern music forever. LouieB
  12. Oh yea, I know all that. This is just a repeat of the convo that was here six years ago during the second Bush election. Except at that time it was way more heated. This time it is mostly in jest and very half baked. Of course people listen to music just as music. I don't intend to stop listening to the Velvet Underground; but I do now know that Moe Tucker, the groundbreaking female drummer is a batshit crazy old woman. The fact does remain that Wilco played benefits for Obama and was very vocal about their opossition to the Iraq War. Just sayin. LouieB
  13. No irony at all actually. I just figure it must irk you that when you give money to Wilco they give some of it to Obama. LouieB
  14. Oh right...it is the Radiohead board... LouieB
  15. I always thought the intellectual level of Wilco fans was higher than this..I guess not. Are you guys serious or are you just fucking with us?? (In case you guys have forgotten...Wilco supports Obama....) LouieB
  16. All right..something we can all agree on.....Sarah Palin for President. We can get the WHOLE WORLD laughing...now we are talkin. LouieB
  17. I guess there wasn't a huge rush on this in the wake of reocrd store day. Wasn't this supposed to have a limited run? LouieB
  18. Knowing her past history shw would quit first anyway. LouieB
  19. Start with Wilco (the album) and work your way back. LouieB
  20. I am also a big fan of Leonard Cohen and have been for years. (Since Judy Collins sang his songs actually.) I have not read his novels, but have read some of his poetry. Also missed his recent tour. Seemed like a ton of money, but I hear the shows were very good. There are several live albums available from different perods which are interesting. Death of a Ladies Man may be his weakest album. LouieB
  21. Woodrow Wilson isn't even in the top 10 terrible Presidents. He did have significant health problems late in his presidency though. And before anyone says it, I was not around for him either. I am NOT speaking for anyone but myself in regards to wanting a President Palin. I think the comedy value of having her as President far outweighs any other consideration. As far as Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are concerned, ikol is correct, they are not sustainable in their current form. Neither are any other government programs, services or the military unless the rich and corporations
  22. I am so ready for President Palin I can't stand it. I think Congress should impeach Obama now and then hold a special election and get her ass in there. Why wait until 2012? She will be so much more entertaining than Barack and isn't that what we all want anyway? (Who cares about a background in Constitutional law??) LouieB
  23. "I support the idea of people caring for themselves rather than a allowing the government to care for them. I also support a government that does not enable a problem, or escalate a problem." I think D-Dogg said this.... I support people supporting themselves too. In a perfect world all folks would have jobs with insurance supplied by the private sector that meets all their needs. But not everyone can work their entire lives, some folks are disabled, some are sick, some are unemployed, some are children, some are old. I don't know what it means to enable a problem or escalate a problem.
  24. So D-Dogg...which goverment agency did you work for?? Politics are NOT black and white, but suggesting that the government should not help those who can't help themselves?? Well that's a position that seems indefencable at some point. To all my brothers and sisters on the slightly left of center, you don't need to be depressed. A Republiican landslide is only going to make it easier to re-elect Barack in two years. This I believe. LouieB
  25. Well at least we know that now. Which agency? Maybe you are not really expressing your true politics here, but somehow I have no other way to take your comments. LouieB
